Anyone have any opinions on using an exterior case to house my pump/rad? I'd feel much more comfortable modding a cheaper case than the Lian-Li V1000 I'll be getting. Will the extra tubing kill performance? Also, anyone have opinions on what case I should use, as well as pump/radiator. I was thinking about an Iwaki 30RZ and maybe the He120.3 rad. Opinions welcome.

External is the only way I cool anymore. What a pain shoehorning everything in the case....

As for killing performance, fugettaboutit. As long as the tubing's 1/2" (or even 5/8" up to your case) you'll have no problems.

Anyway, it sounds like you have a nice power setup going there :)

Yeah I'm looking to get a top of the line watercooling system. Just need some ideas on a cheap case, preferably with a window for the wcing components, and some information on pumps and rads. I found an Iwaki 30RZ-200n, is this a recomended pump? If I want to go 1/2'' how would I do that if the Iwaki has different sized inlets. Or should I just go 5/8''? Source says that the Iwaki has 5/8'' tube but 3/4'' NPT. What does that mean.

It either has, or needs fittings that have 3/4" NPT (national pipe thread) threads, and a 5/8" hose barbs (for 5/8" internal diameter soft plastic tubing).

Translation:the pump uses 3/4" threaded pipe fittings. Easy to find pieces really, Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, even local hardware stores. You can get that size tubing at the same places.

The rest, well, I'm no authority on Iwaki pumps. I'm usually on a much tighter budget.

Okay, so I can get 3/4'' threaded fittings that convert to 5/8'' or 1/2'' tubing, is that correct?

That's nice, but I think I'll just stick a cheap case next to the computer, I can't really afford 2 V1000's...and god forbid to chop one in half. Still need help choosing a pump/rad. Iwaki 20RZ or 30RZ?

whereabouts are you?
if your mains is 60hz (eg usa/canada) then 20RZ is a good pump - but it's not a good choice on 50hz (eg europe/australia...)

USA, so yeah 60hz. Guess I'll be going with the 20RZ, because the 30RZ seems like overkill from what I've read. Will it just plug right into an outlet? Also, where's the best place to find the pump?

yep straight into an outlet (once you put a plug on if it doesn't come with one attached...)

ebay if you're lucky/patient (that's where i got mine), otherwise i suspect the "Z" models need to be ordered specially as they are more specialist.....

these guys sell iwaki - sure some US based people can suggest other outlets ...

$179.99 for an MD-20RZ or RZT (on backorder)
$124.99 for a WMD-20RZT (on backorder)

How much did you pay for urs on ebay? I'm going to be waiting a few months for this computer, so I can wait on the pump probably.

peanuts... but i was in a more fortunate position than you as i wanted a 220V model 30RZ (we are 230v/50hz here - so the 20RZ would have been a bad choice of pump...) and luckily find a US seller with a WMD-30RZ -220 who (in theory) wouldn't ship outside the US - and hence had no bids after several days.... and could be persuaded to ship to me if i bid - so i was the only bidder  - he had 2 to sell so i took both.
shipping of course was a lot (they are heavy...)

basically the non-threaded version of this (mine was even cheaper ;) )

(obviosly you could get one of these i suppose, though you'd need a voltage converter too... and to be confident your setup can take the 15.5psi it generates at 60hz!)

Hey I just payed for that, mine's in the mail!
It came to $85 shipped for the 220v pump that does 36' of head, and I got a power converter here for $27 shipped. $112 bucks for 36' of head is a steal, especially for an Iwaki :sn:

I'm actually getting a black v1000 as well, I'm going to have an external box mounted on top with the pump mounted onto the resevoir (no inlet restrictions) and the pump will do my whole system (2 heatercores, 3 waterblocks). Should be fun, and I'll only need two holes in my soon to be lian-li. :)
