Well you'd need a new MB to go with the CPU. You can still use all of your components like RAM, HD, PCI cards etc. You will need to do a repair of the current operating system you have and you may even have to reinstal it completely so make sure you back up your important material just in case.

Thank for the reply, but what about the heatsink and fan can i use them or do i need a special sort,

ANy reccommendations of a good but not to expensive MOBO summat like the NF7S but in the 64 bit line,

also what is a good noticable 64 bit step up from a mobile 2500 at 2.2 ghz

Well I would recom. that you simply get the retail package. The heatsink and fan you have now will not work. As far as the boards go some of the better, cheap boards are the gigabyte K8VT800M, chaintech sk8t800 and albatron k8x800. This boards are all made for the socket 754 64bit AMD which I recommend that you get. All of them are under 90.00.The 9XX sockets arent worth it in my opinion but feel free to look into them. As far as chips go the OC with the mobile you have would surpas the 3200 in the clock speed area as the 3200 only runs a little bit over 2ghz. I would say go with the Athlon 3000 or 3200. I am going to assume you would be OC'ing the 64, correct? How much do you have to spend?

Well the gigabyte K8VT800M and the athlon 64 3000 would be the best pick in my book. I wouldnt really spend the extra money for a 3200 when you can simply OC the 3000. They work the same way as XPs do. Just a matter of going into BIOS and tweaking until you feel fit. The Thermaltake venus 12 is pretty good. Its pretty quiet but it can get loud at full blast. The heatsink is made of copper so it will provide better cooling. It uses a molex connector though. It doesnt use the 3 pin connector like most of the stock CPU fans do. Last I checked they were 35.00 but they may have come down since then.

Edit: I went to new egg and selected the heat sink/mobo and cpu.
Heatsink/Fan: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-106-038&depa=1
CPU:http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-425&depa=1 Note: for about 60.00 more you CAN get the 3200 with a 1mb l2 if you feel like.http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-413&depa=1
Motherboard:http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-128-244&depa=1

The total comes to about 410.00. That is with the 3200 though. If you go with the slower 3000 Chip then it will be about 350.00. Shipping isnt included in those prices though. Expect to pay about 20.00 in shipping charges and tax.
