Hey guys. I am trying to watch my DVDs using DTS rather then dolby digital and i am not sure if i have my system set up correctly. I have the NF7-S and i am using the optical out to a Sony amplifier (STR-DE595) it is capable of decoding DD and DTS and from what i have read in the manual the digital display should show the format being decoded DD or DTS. It always stays on DD though even when i select to use DTS in the DVDs audio options. I do hear sound after selecting DTS it is a little lower then with DD. Am i actually hearing DTS (I thought DTS was supposed to be a bit louder then DD) or is something screwed up somewhere?

If ya need more info just ask.

TIA

I was unaware of any volume difference between the two audio formats. Everything sounds like it's setup OK and the fact that you still get audio when switching to DTS makes me thing that it's probably working. Does your receiver actually indicate what kind of audio format it is receiving or just that it's receiving some form of multi-channel audio? What DVD software are you using to play the movie?

I am using PowerDVD.

The reciever/amplifier does display what format it is recieving.

And yes DTS is supposed to sound a bit louder and better due to it being less compressed then AC3/DD.

Being less compressed might give the illusion of being lower in volume untill loud passages come in.

Like a cassette and cd.The cassette has a more constant volume level so the cd might sound i bit lower untill a louder part in the song comes.

The SoundStorm APU on the NF7-S has a built-in AC3/DD encoder. To disable it open the SoundStorm control program (should be under NVIDIA Corperation in your Start Menu) and go to Speaker Setup and uncheck "Dolby(R) Digital Encoding".

Ok guys i figured it out. The problem was the way i had the DVD player software configured. In the audio section i had it setup to output to a 6 speaker configuration and i needed to set it to SPDIF to have just the amp/receiver do the decoding. It works great now and DTS is deffinately louder then DD.
