**HELP** new celeron wont post

My brother has just got a new celeron 800mhz to replace his pIII 500. After installing it with a new heatsink and fan, the system will not boot, after powering up, the fans move for a couple of seconds then everything goes dead.

The fan is plugged into the motherboard and he has tried to clear CMOS. The board is a "P6 Bat ME". HELP

Are you sure the mobo supports a coppermine cpu? How about flashing the BIOS, would that help?

I agree with Allan. Put the old cpu back in and try flashing the BIOS to the latest version.

Thanks for the advice, will double check the cpu compatabilty with the mobo manual and hunt for bios upgrade, hopefully will post back using his computer !

And hope that you did not fry the CPU with too much voltage.
