I've always been wondering if 3dmark scores meant anything in the real world and I've come with the answer no. A 400 points difference is ~3 fps.My specs are:

Intel Celeron 800@1064 (133x8.0)
Abit VT6X4
320MB PC133 SDRAM
2 x 20GB 7200 rpm Hard disk
Asus V7700 Deluxe Geforce 2 GTS (not OCed)
Sound Blaster Live!
etc...

I know it's not a high end machine but it works well. I get a score of 5078 using 12.xx drivers and 5715 using 7.xx and 8.xx in 3dmark2000. In 2k1 I get 3198 with the DX8 optimized drivers and 2513 with DX 7 drivers. Is that normal? It seems pretty low compared to the results at guru3d in the detonator database. I don't have an Athlon but how can a GF2 MX beat a GTS? There's just something that's not normal. Celeron or not it just seems weird. What scores are you guys getting?

I've noticed since the forums were changed recently here, that less attention (thankfully) is being paid to 3d Mark scores. This is partly to do with the picture limitations the admin has set, but also due to the industry wide realization that these scores are only one tool among many to determine the quality of a card. Other important considerations, such as image quality and realiability, framerate consistency, and overall eye-candyness (like that one ;) ) are becoming increasingly important factors too.

Your scores are low probably because of the neutered celeron chip. 3dMark is a good tester, but the reason they do card comparison by processor is the noticeable increase in performance as CPU speed increases and bandwidth differences in bus speeds. You probably don't have a lot of results online to compare yours with as it will only look for other celeron chips at that same exact speed. I think your scores are probably fine. Pentium 3 chip, though, would score about 6000-7000+ in 3dMark 2000 and maybe 500-1000 higher in 3dMark 2001.

System is below. I don't know about 3Dmark2000. But in 3Dmark2001 I get 2138 with vid card at stock speed. And 2460 with with the card OCed to 200/185.

hehehehe I got my card cool enough to finish the benchmark in 3dmark2001... brace yourselves.... my puter got a whopping 394!!! At an ultra crisp 640 x 480! Wow, screw that 1.4 AMD I was gonna get. I'm stickin with ol' speed racer here. Hell I think I might even have to underclock this thing...

(it restarted when it loaded the second part of the demo though) :(
