Hi, i was benchmarking my video card when all of a sudden i realised that all programs (including 3d Mark 2000 and 2001) are reading that the card has got 32 MB of memory when in fact it is supposed to be 64 MB of memory . Has anyone got any ideas on what i can do to make the card readable at 64.
By the way, in th BIOS setup the aperture size of the AGP is set to 128 MB.

die hard voodoo users that is :p !!

Die hard they did, but we're almost all Nvidia and Radeon here now. The reason I share this is because of the lack of support for these cards, even here, but I'm sure one of our voodoo users will be able to help! heheh lol

The V5500 is essentially a 32 MB card. Although it has 64 MBs, it is split between the two GPUs for a total of 32 each.

yep, 32 for each processor so it only registers as 32 and functions primarily as a 32 meg card, however some of the ram is pooled for some funcitons. 128 aperture setting is unecessary as the voodoo5500 is essentially a pci card, it does not use 2x, 4x etc. so you can disable this in bios, the apterture can be disabled. there are current drivers available for the 5500 although they are third party drivers, there's even an xp version in the works. i use the omega drivers and they work fine for me, increased my framerates by about 8 fps. they're available at voodoofiles.com. there are also drivers at voodoosource.net which i've yet to try, but the reviews are good. voodoosource also has a new bios revision for the card. i'll get a geforce3 eventually but for 60$ (for me anyways) the voodoo card is great. 4xanti-aliasing and the dude in the lobby from 3dmark2001 has no jaggies. people are dropping these cards like hotcakes because they think there is no support! there's plenty of support, just check these sites out.

do they have win2k omegas out?

which bios do you use? I am running 1.18 but thinking of going back to 1.16. think that will help. I have two v5 only paid 50 each what a deal G3 is way better but 300bucks is way too much when this card really does rock!

i recently installed the 1.18 bios but havn't benchmarked yet. played a few games but didn't notice much of a difference. i checked it out and there is an omega driver for win2k.

the 1.18 bios are almost the same as the 1.16. there is one little difference that has to do with the ram on the chip but im not sure exactly what it does. the 1.18 bios were for the v5 6000 but can still be used on the v5 5500 because of their similarities. the 1.16 is for the agp version of v5 5500 and the 1.11 is for the pci version of 5500. i have a pci one but run it with the 1.18. i saw no difference in scores so i never changed back. i have a pic of the v5 6000 startup screen that says 1.18, so if any1 wants it just mail me xrashlyx@hotmail.com.

i finished benching the 1.18 bios and it benched 1 mark higher in 3dmark2001. (than 1.16) i attribute this most likely to background apps, or pure chance, perhaps the system clock. also benched the omega drivers against the newest drivers from reactorcritical.com. the omegas scored 47 marks higher. win98se, asus cuslc-2, p3 750@847, 448 megs cas2ram, 113 fsb. i've noticed sometimes i see lines or squares with the omegas, but only when the screen goes black, i haven't noticed it at all in the games themselves and i've been looking pretty hard for them.

3dfx will always be the kind of video cards. I am still running a voodoo 3 3000 overclocked to 199 mhz and i had this card for 2 years! If 3dfx was still around today nivdia would have their geforce 3 ultra out right now for 300 bucks

i dont know about that, because nvidia is still getting heat from ati....but its true a third player would be much better for the market...
