Which Hard drives should I get.

Gonna be getting two of them to run in RAID 0 on a MSI K8N Neo Platinum. They all seem so similar and its hard to find reviews comparing all 3. If someones got a review with all 3. It would help me out a lot.

out of those 3, the WD would most likly be the better choice.

if you have the cash, i would get 3 36gb raptors :)

Wester Digital has got my vote. Have had several of them and they work great. Dont like Maxtor too much personally.

heres a list of whats good and whats not of each drive:


WD: 3 year warranty; 8.9 ms Average Seek Time
Seagate: 1 year warranty; 8.5 ms AST
Maxtor: 1 year warranty; 9.3 ms AST


Personally the 3 year warrenty is worth more than the .4ms gain on the seagate (even though the drive will most likely last longer than 3 years, it may not so the extra 2 years is nice). The maxtor has a 1 year warrenty and the worse seek time so I'd count that out. Some people say seagate drives are more quiet than other drives but I really don't think that matters.

Yeah I was gonna go with the WD got the same model although ata 133 in my current system and its been a great experience. You guys seem to know what your talking about every other forum post with this question got people saying the seagates better or this one or that one.

Yeah, I'd go with the Western Digital as well. They've proven fairly reliable for me. Not much of a Maxtor fan myself. Seagates, as was mentioned, are supposed to be pretty quiet, but that's the only thing I've ever really heard about them.

3 Year warranty makes it an easy choice.

Of the three,the WD would be my last choice.I have nothing against WD's but both of the others sport the fluid drive bearings.This can make a big difference in heat and noise. I do like the three year warranty however.If you get the WD's keep them at least an inch apart and use active cooling.

Western Digital, I agree, I used to like Maxtor's but my 120gig SATA maxtor is NOISY. The WD's SATA drives I have used have been quiet and problem free.

That's a good point, fluid bearings are nice. I thought WD had a fluid bearing version of the 80gig. Hmm...either way, a fan of some type blowing over your drives is always a good idea.
