Laptop harddrive?

My laptop fried a while ago.. don't know how, don't know why. but i am thinking about just taking it all apart and like using the lcd and stuff. but i am wondering if i can use my harddrive in my desktop, just to like get the info off of it? or is that a no... cause can i just hook it up via ide??
