I was getting 526core/346ram on my old 9600 PRO without any vmods or modded cooling. That was on a bone stock card.

the 9600XT runs at 500core anyway, i dont understand why the 9600's have those clock speeds, but i guess the 9800 is better because of the extra pipelines :-/

The 9600's are made with the .13 process while the 9800's are made with the .15 process, which means the 9800's put out more heat and use more power at any give clockspeed.

my 9600 can only do 480/330 with stock cooling and no v mods :(

yup, its very possible. my old one did 540/360 after mods. just give q149 a pm and ask him how his 9600pro overclocked

My 9600xt goes up to 560 and 330 (see sig). I guess thats a crazy over clock.
Its not entirely 3dmark artifact free, but i think soem of the tests are kinda flaky. Like the rag troll test. I just keep it here unless i see some artifacts in my games.

So what the point of getting any 9800 if you can get the much cheaper 9600 that can o/c much higher?

my 9600xt did 600/330, it was pretty beefy back in the time i had it :)

larken: the 9800 has more pipelines, no matter how high you oc the 9600 (with in reason ofcourse :)) the 9800 will be faster
