UPgrade vs. build new?

i really want to play the upcoming games of doom 3 and hl2 etc...

I only have a MX 440 grphx card. SHould i upgrade that or just build a new system. I am kinda leaning towards upgrading, and then building when pci-express comes out.

What the rest of the system specs?

Definately you will need to upgrade the video card though.

2.6Ghz p4
512 DDR SDRAM
120 GB Ultra DMA

I dont know the rest. Its our family computer. My Pc is so old i think im gonna throw it out.

Its a HP, so i think it has a 5400RPm HDD

what video card would last me for about a year so i can hold out untill pci-express comes out?
