OK first off, to all of you who SAID and thought this was a hard mod , i want to set something straight. IT ISN'T. This is the easiest mod i have ever done. True its a newer model, maybe 2 years old, monitor, but still. 4 Screws and 2 clips poped later its dissasembled. Took 5 minutes to get the back and the face and the stand off. Yes 5mintues!
Also, you dont really have that much risk of death, i didnt need to touch anything harmful, but just for fun i started proding (ya i know its stupid, but if you dont get caught youll do it again, so i wanted to do it till i ended up like (was it baller) that got shocked)

Now, its dissasembled so i painted those halves, easily. Took a LONG time to dry..damn krylon, but came out fairly nice, so impressed. I didnt even take the buttons out they are perfect. I could have changed the led but i didnt want to.

To any of those thinking about this, be warned you COULD die, but like me prolly wont. I am no electrician and i made it. Take your time (will 5 minutes really kill you to move the protected monitors guts out of its think plastic shell?

Anyways here are some pics. Good luck to anyone who tries.

Total Time Breakdown :
(Dissasembly) 5 minutes
(Painting/Drying) 3 hours (firstcoat) + 8 hours (second and third coat + touchups)
(Reassembly) Just Under 6 minutes

Skill rating: I barley know anything except those wires deliver energy to power this tv like object. Can you work a screw driver ? Can you push in plastic clips? Yes? Your all set, just get a friend to help. My friend pushed the clips as i slid the back piece off.

Good luck, here are some pictures...

I like the MS Paint mod you did to the helmet in the last picture.

EDIT: The sunglasses are pretty cool, too.

Scared of being shocked. One of the members here was doing something with their monitor and had their arm shocked which he had to go to the hospital for.

understandable, i guess... i cant see how something like this would happen. All you want to do is pop off the shell. Watch what you touch.

Well, whatever if you are to worried then dont.

I personally didnt mind spending 6bux instead of 200ish for a black monitor :D

Nice but for some reason I do not like the eggshell effect on the plastic.Did you sand that down ? Or just paint over the stock shell.

I enjoyed nWn. Havent played the second expansion and never finished the first expansion

Eggshell effect...umm i assume you mean the bumps. Ya i dont mind it, it gives it texture, but no i didnt sand it down. It would look smoother if i sanded it down, in a way i kinda wish i did it, but i really like it the way it is.

Just finished painting my own monitor tonight (well not the one I use, just an old scrap one). Very straight forward, except my monitor had a few screws holding the buttons in place that were difficult to get to. Other than that it was cake. One thing I'd do if I do it again would be to sand it and primer it. I just used Krylon paint, and it turned out nice, but I think if I sanded and primed it first it'd be even better. H
