I have a Mator SATA drive that I plan on installing as an additional storage device. I am going to connect it to the SATA controller thats built in on my motherboard ( MSI 865PE Neo 2). I also have 2 other internal IDE harddrives one of which is my boot drive. My question is do I need to make any changes in the bio's to enable the SATA controller on my motherboard before I install the drive, or will it dectect the drive automatically.

I say try it out, and if it doesn't detect it then go from there

I was going to go about the route. I'll see what happens.

You might need to enable SATA, but that depends on weather there is an option for disable/enabling it in your boards BIOS and what default is. I think I had to turn it on on my board.

You will need to use the disk manager (or somthing like PartitionMagic) in Windows to format it though (in case you didn't know:D). Start -> Run -> "compmgmt.msc" and then go down to Disk Managment and right click on the drive (if it doesn't show up, then hopefully you just need to enable SATA in the BIOS and it isn't somthing else) and format it as needed (I think with a larger [>130Gb-ish] drive you have to use NTFS and I think you need to have SP1 too - just FYI). It won't show up in My Computer or anything until you format it.

The drive is not showing up in Disk Managment so maybe I need to try go into the bio's and enable the SATA controller.

Um... just FYI you can edit your posts so you don't have to do like 8 in a row.

Glad you got it figured out yourself though.
