I just ordered a new OEM Duron 900 from NeedPCParts.com. Im planning on running it on my MIS K7T Turbo RAID. Right now I'm running a 650@933 with a simple, cheap Coolermaster DP5-6H51 http://www.coolermaster.com/products/cpucooler/fcpga/dp5-6h51.html (don't aske me how) which supposedly supports Duron's up to 1.7 ghz according to that page. Will this 900 mhz overclock as nicely as my 650 does? How far do you guys think I can take it with this cheap hsf? Im seriously considering investing in an AquaStealth II (with Aquacoil upgrade) so that will promise me some higher speeds. Any suggestions, comments or ideas?

Well i have never seen a 900 overclock NEAR as well as the 600/650 chips, but never the less you should hit about the same speed. Say you get a 650 that has a great overclock and hits 1050, then you get the 900 which dont clock near as well but due to it being 250faster at default you can get a crappy overclock of 150mhz and still be at 1050. Assuming that the 650 you mentioned is a Duron - the best Duron overclocker is the 600AKBA, but i think it shold be more stabel ocing the 900 over the 650 because of you not pushing it near as hard! and youcant go wro9ng with a Duron at the currecnt chip prices - look inthe cpu database for what others have gotten

Dudes, if you're considering a Duron 900 I'd seriously reconsider...

Athlons are so unbelievably cheap, and are undeniably more powerful clock for clock.

The difference between my Duron @ 954 and my TBird @1 GHz is astounding... much more of a difference than 46 MHz would make.

General rule of thumb has always been "spend as much money on a CPU as you do the motherboard". I know this doesnt apply to everyone (I bought a $62 Duron with my $145 KT7A Raid, initially) but with as cheap as TBirds are and as good of overclockers as they are (they used to be dogs in comparison to Durons, now if you get a good stepping a TBird will probably overclock better).

Seriously, a 1 GHz chip is under $100. Even if you have to give up your daily Mt Dew for a month it would be worth it.

The coolermaster dp56h11/51 heatsink is standard with retail duron 900. I think the 51 has a better fan or something. I'm running a 900 at 1.2 on my work machine (45-47C load temps) with that heatsink although it was a unique situation that i got to 1.2. You should be able to get some kind of OC using that HS though.

Check out my post "duron 900 at 99C plus temps" for more info

Also that is the HS I use on my celeron setup at home except with a panasonic fan
