View Full Version : 1.4 ghz thunderbird and power supply
does anyone know what kind of power supply (how powerful) i need with thunderbird 1.4 ghz (because 1.4 ghz is suddenly so cheap), because they say you need powerful enough powersupply for thunderbirds....but i havent seen anywhere how many watts it has to be at least...because i wont bother buying it if i need to get a new power supply (along with new motherboard) as well (although current processor is celeron 600@675)

Hmmm, Welcome to the Forums!! :) You can use a really neat tool at AMD's website to determine the proper wattage based on Processor type. Link is here (http://www1.amd.com/athlon/power)
As a rule of thumb, 300W seems to be the minimum. Add a bunch of drives, fans, etc, and that requirement goes up. Most post's I've seen lean towards 350-400 watt range. Good luck!
What PSU do you have for your Intel based system... if it is a 235-250 Watt PSU bad luck ! has these babies need at least 300Watt PSU. Visit AMD recommend page for power supplies. I have a 300Watt Seasonic SS-300FS RA1 and the 5Vrail is pretty low.

thanks for info...hehehehe the current psu is 235 watts....well i am gonna get the new power supply + new motherboard + 1.4 ghz thunderbird anyway, cause this celeron is too slow for some games (cant even overclock to 900 because i badly damaged the thermal interface pad)..i guess i get 350 watts psu..
and for motherboard soltek 75-drv(cheapest of the ddr motherboards)..wonder if the titan majesty cooler thats on celeron now is ok cooler for thunderbird (cooler is for fcpga celerons, so it might be ok for socket a as well) (this thunderbird i buy doesnt come with cooler) ??
