assuming someone didnt photoshop it first or something. But if its real, yeah that is a sweet lap job, too bad I already have a cpu block.

Wow. That's as good as Polarflo's blocks. Maybe that's why they have troubles keeping them in stock now.

I curious though - it's been shown (though I can't find the tests) that a block lapped past 600 grit shows diminishing returns, as the higher grits close the small pores that arctic silver and other greases get into, and thus perform worse.
not sure if that is true, anyone know more?
well, i don't think this picture was done by photoshop, Danny from Dtek customs sent me this in the email when i asked him about the new base finish. same..i need to pick this block up soon too..lol

just use a "less thick" thermal paste. I moved away from Arctic Silver after lapping my blocks to 1000 grit.. and i got very good results.

They could have cropped in photoshop ;)

You're right about diminishing returns, but when you jump from diminishing returns to reversed returns, you're wrong. Thermal paste is not a magic conductor of heat. The thermal conductivness of the TIM is practically negligible compared to solid copper. The less you need to use to fill in the cracks, the better. The only reason we use it is because its very much better than a pocket of air. In an ideal situation, the surfaces of the heatsink and core would be perfect, and no TIM would be necesary.
hmm so since this is like a mirror finish, you think this will perform worse than the odler WW's squeakygeek?

WW = White Water cpu block by dtek, it is one of the best cpu blocks around.

ohh i see. are these blox better than the rbx by dd?

From what ive seen they are pretty even in performance.

yeah by the price and looks its exactly the same. also how do you lap a blok?

i've been a graphic designer for a long time,
that, sir, is no fake picture..
thing is, i can't tell if its flat or just polished..

yes
"shinyness" is great for showing your friends but is utterly useless without a flat base
see billa's work on the subject
these are the type of threads I am not a huge fan of, nedless to say

Exactly, the surface of a spoon can be polished to a nice mirror finish. Not an ideal surface for contact with your CPU though. ;)

why couldn't my one from the last batch be like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow!
all i could see (and feel) in my old Dtek WW base were...DEEP SCRATCHES and grooves. (assuming its flat) GREAT work Dtek! you've come a long way!
woow , thats one good lapping hah

Im so ashamed of this forum that it took untill post #23 for anyone to give the correct comment.
For the last time: a pic of a shiny base means NOTHING
That is all.
You guys ever held a bad dtek base in your hands though? Even if this one is concave/convex I'm sure its not as bad as lapping out those deep gouges some bases had.

Yes it is.

Exactly. Now im not saying that base finish is not important but what i am trying to get at is that it is not everything.
If someone takes a pic of there shiny waterblock it doesnt mean that it has been lapped correctly.
Im sure d-tek have lapped it to a high standard but i hate to see all these people implying the wrong conclusion and (inadvertantly?) misleading newer forum members .
just out of curiousity, how does the WW compare to teh asetek antarctica? looked at the overclockers.com review and it seems like a good block, but why don't lot of people use it?

My guess is that everyone already had a WW or RBX by the time the antartica came out.

It comes with 10mm push fittings not 1/2" barbs.

looks to me like they used polish, which is a BAD thing. would you rather have polish in the small cracks or TIM?

now now guys, a picture doesn't show these kinds of things.
hopfully someone who gets one can review it.
it was probably polished, but it might have been lapped before that. the tc-4 i got a while ago was nicly lapped, i wouldn't be suprised if this did as well.
