every few times I boot my system, my 9800pro wont show anything on the screen. that is,... I can see the bios post ok, and the windows loading screen, but right after this, the screen will go black. I can hear the windows login sound in the background so I know the desktop booted just fine. the indicator on my flat panel shows that no signal is coming through. The only way i have found to get around this is to plug in both VGA and DVI cables and swap the input on my monitor from DVI to vga and then back to DVI. voila,,, the desktop appears. i have tried playing with the "alternate DVI setting" option in the ATI control panel with no luck. I have also tried reinstalling drivers. This is a problem that I noticed on both my old Dell and my current system (same exact card). it is an ATI oem model if that helps.
Anyone else had this problem? any ideas? I certainly do appreciate your help. thx

I have a friend with the same problem. For him it was the panel, and the only work around was to use the VGA full time.

Yes, this is a known problem with the DVI port. I've experienced this issue all the way back to CAT3.7. In any case, you can opt to use the VGA port or just cycle the power on the monitor and it'll come back ok.

its been several months since I started this thread. I actually bought a 6800GT several months back and had the same problem. I finally figured out the problem was caused by my monitor (Dell 2001FP). I got a replacement monitor from Dell and have not had a problem since.
