I hardly ever (if ever) see artic silver anymore. It's always AS2 now. Any difference?

cheapest place I've found it is here http://www.coolinggears.com/ as well as a few other good prices. Might be worth a look.

I think there was more silver content in the mixture

I also heard that it was thicker, so it would stay where you put it, ie, between the proc and the hsf, and not squeeze out the sides.

I've got some Arctic Silver One and the one difference I am careful about is electrical conductivity. AS2 is only electrically conductive under extreme pressure. AS1 i think is very conductive, and because of that there where probably a lot of incidents where people damaged their hardware using it. I bought my AS1 tube over a year back, its still going strong. Ive done over like 20 cores with it and countless other things too. Very good value for about £15.

Would71,

Try this with your AS thermal adhesive:

Simply mix up as small portion using part A and part B then add a ratio of 1/3 AS2 to the mix

Then place the thermal adhesive 'blend' on 4 corners of the item your about to affix and use regular AS2 on the rest of the surface area, should you ever decide you want to remove the heatsink, removal is easy.;) :D

Where did you get the idea the original formula was conductive? Did you measure the conductivity? If so, I would like to know how you measured it.

The primary difference is a change in viscosity eliminating the need for two formulas and making it easier to apply consistently. Arctic Silver II performs a bit better than the original formula.

I guarantee you that Arctic Silver adhesive is more thermally conductive than super glue

Actually I have been using this trick since the inception of Arctic Silver adhesive, works great and allows the HSF to be removed easily, Even easier if you use the 'blend' tactic.

Added this:

Lets say that your putting a 17 pound heatsink to your video card's chipset, in that case dont add the 1/3 mix to the adhesive for the corners. But the 'blend' will hold a fairly hefty heatsink to yor video card very securely.

Also what works well is only using two corners, but your milage may vary.

Try this, mix up a small amount of the blend formula and take a cd-jewel case and test this out with something heavy affixed to the cd-jewel case. Let it cure for a hour and you will see this works well if you are at all hesitant

Ps I get to be a noobi here at OC.com all over again due to the new boards losing my last identity:(
