I just took out the delta 38 fan and replace it with a 80mm 2900rpm fan... so quiet....:) I got the fan and a funnel (60mm to 80mm), but my HS doesn't have any hold to really put the funnel on. So I decide to just put the fan on top of the HS, I wonder if this will decrease the performance without using the funnel?

I know that is the opposite, the airflow of the fan is bigger without the funnel coz free to move, and decrese with it coz found more resistance.

All fans have a dead-zone where the motor is. 80mm fans have bigger motors than 60mm fans thus having more dead-zone. Without a 60-80mm adaptor your will get very little cfm through your hsf. Another thing is that most of a fans airflow is pushed around the edge of the fans fins (Largest circumference gives more push).

A steep 60-80mm adaptor would be your best bet for keeping good airflow. Also, remember certain hsfs work better with adaptors than others. I have a ThermoSonic with 80mm adaptor. The hsf gives out a lot of backdraft because of the design. I would be much better off with a copper fin based hsf. The swiftech m462 or SK-6 are excelent at adaptor based fans.

thanks guys, without the funnel, it's 42c idle (net surfing bla bla...) so I am kinna lazy to open my case again and put in the funnel.. and beside, the funnel doesn't fit with my SK6, i guess 42c is alright.

argg, I tried the funnel anyway and guess what.... idle at 43 - 45...and load at 50 - 51 ...this suk... no more no more stupid funnel...or maybe I mess up the ASII..nooo..I cleaned and reapply it.

I can't hear My computer ever since I put mu loud top fan at 5v. load temps don't go above 45c ocz gladiator case closed no fans inside. if a normal conversation is 30-35 db than my computer is like 27-29 db. I'm loving every bit of it! Ican acturally sleep with it on, this will definatly help me folding :)
