View Full Version : 3.0C and 3.0E Cache, does 1MB Cache help alot over 512KB Cache?
I know the 3.0C overclocks better and is alot cooler running CPU, but does double the Cache of the 3.0E help any in games?
If I get a 3.0C i'll be hoping for 250FSB for 3.75Ghz where as a 3.0E i'd be hoping for 3.5Ghz, but it has 1MB Cache.

Dissertation on CPU types: in sig link.
However, the 3.0E's extra cache only truly helps in certain situtations. The lengthened Prescott pipeline requires a higher clockspeed to outperform a lower-clocked P4C, and the larger cache is used primarily to keep the lengthened pipe full.
In essence...get the Northwood.

Wow...I didn't know they used a different pipeline all together. I was thinking...Why doesn't everyone just get a prescott instead? You answered that question. Guess there is more research to do than just a larger cache!

yup, thanks. I'll stick with the 3.0C like I was gonna and hope for 3.75Ghz. A bonus is that it runs cooler as well :P

I love my Prescott......I hit 3.6 fine.....only thing stopping me is temps
I had it at 3.99 with a Vcore of 1.65 (which fluctuates dramatically with the Prescott) and my PC4000 @ 1:1 ratio. Prime95 ran for about 45 minutes until I decided to pull the plug as my temps were hitting 63C..........I need a high flow setup.
If you want a Prescott and want a high clock speed (i.e. 4GHhz) then expect to invest in some quality Water Cooling......Whatever you do don't get what I got!!!! Aquarius is all about the show and I would have been better off with a HSF.
