View Full Version : Wavy display with Geforce 3 when playing 3d intensive apps
I'm getting wavy display when playing 3d intensive games and running 3dMark. It doesn't matter if its underclocked, over, drivers, nothing. Just wondering if this is a common problem with the geforce 3 chip. It's been like this since the day I installed it. The distortion is not terrible, would return it if it was... annoying, though... one of the reasons I can't wait for the new drivers, to see if that resolves this issue.
No waves here either. Well, I guess I'm not entirely sure. I'm planning on re-assembling the ol' box tomorrow. So I'll tell you what I see for sure. I didn't notice anything when running 3DMark2000/2001 or playing UT/Sacrifice. But I'll check again.
You should exchange your card and try another one Pinky.

I mailed ordered it. Adding any cost (by shipping it back) would defeat the purpose of mail ordering it in the first place...
Like I said, not so bad I can't live with it... don't even notice anything in UT or Max Payne, but in games that use some of the geforce 3 features, it's somewhat noticeable.
I'm also awaiting the final say on the new ATI cards, which I might swap up for depending on pricing and bottom line gaming performance (not to mention that promised 3 week driver support).

Have you thought about your refresh rate? Maybe you should try to change your refresh rate on the monitor to see if that remedies the problem. Just my suggestion...

THANKS!! You reminded me of something!! If I set my refresh rate low, like at 60, it happens in 2d too!!
Wow, I'm amazed I didn't think of that connection...
It's currently maxxed at 85mhz, maybe time for a new monitor too when I make my next build.

Andatech preview for the ATI 8500 says the price is expected to be $399.00
I have figured out more on this.
It only happens on high resolutions, anything above 800x600
Now what? Wait for the new drivers?
I emailed Visiontek but don't expect a good answer.

How old is ur monitor? If its older then, say, 5 years, then you should definutely get a new one. You monitor may be the reason for the problem. Have you even tried a different monitor?

6 months or so, it handle 85mhz refresh rates at 1024x768
I contacted Visiontek (reseller only had 30 day return policy) and they will RMA the card for me... sucks to pay shipping but it will be nice to have a fully functional $350 video card :p.
I may be missing for a few days without a video card, I'l going to see if someone I know has a spare (think a friend has a geforce 2 ultra laying around) I could borrow.
About time.

I'll take partial credit as I thought someone needed to poke fun at Shadow's rather ominous avatar... Alan did the rest.
