is there any way to automatically turn on my computer?

i am leaving on a vacation with my family, and my dad will probably want me to turn of the computers.

i dont want to do this, so is there any EASY way i can shut them down, then have them reboot in like 10 minutes?

i plan on trying my best to make it seem like they're off when we leave, and hopefully he wont notice, but i want a back up plan. thanks for any responses.

you could do wake on lan or something then ping them from a nother comptuer when you got where your going

or you could hook them up to a timer ( pretty cheap at home depot and just take out the turn off pin)

or you could set it to boot after powerfalure and on your way out either plug it into a wall socket that has a light switch control and just flip it back on

or do it from the breaker

or you could disable the leds and turn of the monitor and sound and just pretend its off

In BIOS there's probally and option like "boot by RTC (Real Time Clock)" You just insert the time of day you want it to turn on and it will. It should be in the power managment section of the BIOS. I'm assuming it doesn't have a stripped-down OEM bios.

Check your bios. Lots of them have wakeup timers. Settings for Wake on Lan or Wake on Ring, along with wakeups on specific times should be available.

Edit: Doh!

pressed the send button before me :D

There is actually a program called "poweroff" you can do remote shutdowns, and turn-ons i believe. I will try to find the program for ya.

Thats where you can find it. I have not tried it with windows XP tho, and i guess it doesnt have a power on feature, just a power on lan feature. Not sure how to use it tho.
