Hello all,
I am looking into getting my Lian Li V2000 case professionally painted. I want a automotive finish that'll just shine. Anyone have any experience with getting a case painted? I am a do-it-yourselfer but I think I'll leave this job for the pros. I think I'll call an autobody shop tomorrow and try and find some custom places that paint motorcycles. I'd also like a really big logo on each side so some custom work will have to be done either with some kind of a sticker but rather all paint. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Blue...

Well getting it custom painted will not run you too much as long as you do not go for the expensive paint (aka pearls, candy's, chamelions). Getting the logos will cost you alot more. You will need to already have the design ready for them and even then I am not sure how much it will cost you. I would definatly go to a motorcycle place though. They are always cool about painting or chroming computers. Hell they get excited about stuff like that. Good luck though. You can always do the paintjob yourself with krylon fusion or duplicolor paint. Just follow all the directions online and this forum. You can get a perfect mirror finish if you spend the time and do it right. Good luck

For the logo's, most paint has a turn around time, if you paint it, you have like a day before you have to sand the paint to paint again, so right after you paint the case, tape off whatever logo you want, (so only the logo is showing paint, everything else tape/paper) and paint again. Once its done, wet sand with 1000-2000 and bufffffff!! Youll have to get a buffer, though.

Thanks guys but this is what I'd like to do:

This is the email I sent to Smooth Creations.

I've got it all compiled the best I could do with some crappy photoshop work but I think it'll do.
I couldn't find a good picture of the top but the length of the radiator is 403mm and the depth of the case is 590mm so there should be sufficient room up top. Just have it nice and centered that I think it'll all be good, just got to make sure there is enough room for a motherboard to slide under it. I'm not planned on using a mother board with any PCI cards there anyways so if it covers the motherboard that's fine. I already ordered a custom window(same dimensions as the wavemaster window) that will have a custom laser engraved Aqua Computer logo rotated 90 degrees so the window will sit horizontally over the motherboard area. I can ship that to you so you can get an exact fit. I would like the gray paint to be a Diamond Graphite color that is used on the Infiniti G35, it doesn't have to be exact but something almost like it. If you could provide me with a good quote and any additional information you might need please let me know. You can even put your Smooth creations logo on it if you want. Oh yeah, I'd like the top painted down the back please. I'm going to try hard to get this computer in a magazine and put it on as many forums and review sites as I can. There really isn't much Aqua Computer stuff in the US and I'd like to make a bold statement. I know you can do the quality of work that I'm looking for and I'm glad I found you. Let me know how you want to go about this and I will send you the radiator, grill and window to make sure everything lines up. Please let me know what else you need.

What do you guys think?

My recommendation is to either find a friend with an air compressor and a paint gun and buy your own automotive paint. Or find a friend with an air compressor and pick up a paint gun for cheap ($30-$50). Look for swap meets in your area as you can usually pick sometin up for a bargain there, new or used. I am painting my car myself right now and I used my neighbors $50 paint gun. It did a good job so far and I saw the exact same gun for $35 at a swap meet brand new. For that logo, I think it'd be easier to just take a drawing to a vinyl shop. I know the owner of this place: http://www.visionsinvinyl.com/ I bought a car off of him but I can't vouch for the quality of his work. That's just to help you get an idea on pricing. If you have more questions about paint guns or painting I'd be happy to answer them.

You can always rent a paint gun for the day too. The ones you rent are going to be alot higher quality then the $30-$50 pos ones.
