Hello!

Any advice for me setup would be awesome.

I plan on stting up the following some times this weekend (weekend of 6/11)

I just purchaed:
Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW
2x2600+ Barton Mobiles

and I currently have:

2x512 Samsung DDR2700 (unbuffered)
2xThermaltake Silent Boost (rated to 3400+)
ATI radeon 9600 All-In-Wonder
2x40GB Maxtor HDD
Creative Audigy Platinum External
3com Nic 3XP 3CR990 -TX-95
FDD
CD/RW DVD Combo drive
DVD/RW drive
470W Vantec Stealth

I have built dualies before (using xp's, l5 mod)

I plan on wire-pin modding to 17x multi, 1.65 volt

I may only use the onboard sound and I dont plan on using the onboard LAN

I plan on using the 2 HDDs in Raid 0

I will be using Win2k3

I'll be usin the rig mainly for video post/production, 3d/2d animation, sculpting, etc...

is 470w enough? 1.65 enough juice for it to be stable?
how well does the gigabyte handle non-regged memory?
FSB overclocking?
i read to have the BIOS set to autodetect for the cpus, can this be done after i install the cpus both cpus in clean - straight from the first POST or do i have to setup it up manually with one stock cpu, wire-pinmod, then install the cpus?
Im not sure what i could have left out...but then again, that's why im posting too.

thanks!

that psu should be fine

1.65v should be enough for 17x133 (maybe more)...provided the board actually provides the 1.65v that you ask of it

as long as you stay at 2 sticks of RAM and under you should be fine with unregistered memory

i would think that you could install all pin mods and both cpus...then get into the bios to set things as you want them

if you have cool enough temps i would wire mod for 1.775v (1.8v at www.ocinside.de ) and try for 2.4ghz+ (17x 141-150mhz)...as long as you keep your cpus under 55-57C under full load

Thanks!

You're advice so helped.

I got it up earlier today, well i got 2x120GB WD hdds instead of the 2x40gbs i had.

runnin the 2600+ mobiles at: from pin mod) 17x, 140fsb, 1.75v = 2380mhz

not a hiccup, installed all the afformentioned cards, drives (even the audigy), dimms

then win2k3

it seems to be running fine, cpu temps (only checked in bios) 49-51 degrees
vcore in bios fluctuates from 1.80-1.84
i havent done anything tacing on the system yet

i'll run some things tonight and get back if you want

thanks again for the help!

cool!

those temps seem fine...you can try motherboard monitor to check out cpu temps in windows and how high they go up during full load

I have the same motherboard and will be looking into these CPU's.

Out of curiosity, what did you pay for them, and where did you get them?

Also, are these chips overclockable on this motherboard? Also, how much?

Thanks!!!

you WILL have audio problems with this board. Why your not using onboard lan i dont know i have the same board and its just fine.

If you cannot get sound, PM me and ill give u the working realtek drivers for this board. The problem is, under heavy apps requiring audio, you will get BSOD. Win2k3 is a fine and stable OS, problem is it doesnt play well with our soundcards chipset.

I got mad and went back to XP after awhile. Video editor didnt like 2k3 and i need ulead.
