Well I searched around but was unable to find temperatures for this chipset. It's actually the Creative Labs Annihilator 2 GTS card. My computer isn't overclocked and currently the case is open because I'm testing fans and all. I took the standard HSF off the vid card and replaced it with an old heatsink from a Pentium 133. I had to do a great deal of hacking on it to get it small enough to fit but I would think it would still perform better then what was on the card before. I have Arctic Silver II between the heatsink and the GPU and I have a YS Tech 60mm fan attached to the heatsink(4800 rpm supposedly). Now I never really tested the termperature with the stock HSF but with this modified setup my card is running about 52 degrees Celsius just at idle and it's being checked from the back of the card. That to me just seems to hot. The fan is working and as far as I can see heatsink is touching the GPU pretty well. I purchased a Blue Orb but to me it seems like junk. I didn't do a test yet but when I installed it with the push pins I could see a noticeable gap between the Blue Orb and the GPU. I mean it's huge. I've tried lapping the GPU but it doesn't close the gap any with the Blue Orb.

Just wondering if this is close to normal or is something terribly wrong?

I replaced my stock HSF on my GF2 MX 400 w/ a Blue Orb and my temps are 23c idle to 30c UT and Deus EX. They were in the mid 30c range at idle before. You need to lap the orb, use A/S2 and super glue the corners. I have done this to 3 cards w/ great success.

Where are you measuring the temps? I'm getting my temps from the back of the card at the spot right above the GPU. I just spent all day lapping the blue orb down to a mirror shine. I then lapped the GPU down till I was scared to go any farther. I never got it down to the copper but I did get rid of the horribly divot that was in it and I doubt very seriously that getting down to copper would drop my temps a great deal. I used Arctic Silver II and I just booted the computer up. Case open with a small room fan blowing onto card and me reaching in with a Q-tip pushing down a bit on the probe to make sure it's touching I have idle temperatures of 50C. Now that's about a 5 degree drop from last night before all this work but still hot in my book. I'm just using the little pushpins that came with the Blue Orb.

Oh well. I give up. I've spent over 15hrs sanding the GPU and never found copper. It's flat as well as the Blorb but idle temperatures are still 51 to 55 Celsius. Oh well.
