I can't get the GF2MX to even post if I run the cpu at 266fsb most of the time. I think I need to adjust the AGP Driving Value to something higher just to get a stronger signal so that I can boot up. It's set at DA(hex) I really don't know hex values. Any clues to set it? 00h-FFh......duh:confused:

Why is my GeForce 2 GTS or MX card is unstable?
From ABIT's official FAQ: "nVidia GTS and MX are new graphic chips. If the system is unstable when play 3D games, try manually setting AGP driving values in “Advanced chipset features” please. Generally DA or EA is okay for the cards based on nVidia reference card. For Prolink MX, try E9 and disable fast write function."

One user found that he was unable to cold boot his system when a GeForce2MX was installed. By enabling IDE Prefetch Mode in the Integrated Peripherals section of the BIOS he solved this problem.

Placid-Thanks for the reply. I am familiar with the article that you linked to. If I use a higher driving value,EA to FF, what would happen?

Might help might not, the agp driving value reall has nothing to do with booting thou but stability. It is possible to damage the card if its set too high.

Hex works like this

try the value ef this is what i was recomended by the hercules support team when i shouted abuse at them as idint work properly :) i also installed the latest 4 in 1 ( if you got a via board any way )

Placid - I will try the EA as soon as I get a hold of a PCI video card. I've heard that if the driving value is set the wrong way the only way for me to reset it is to use a PCI video card because it will be impossible to view anything thru the agp card,reseting the CMOS doesn't take care of resetting if this is the cause. When it won't boot up the reset or power buttons in front don't work & I have to switch my pc off by killing the psu. There must be some damage that is being done when this happens.

-inox- thats is close to what ABIT recomends,DA or EA. Yes I do have a VIA chipset KT133A. Did you ahve the same prob? I'm starting to think that this chipset has way to many bugs.

Could this problem also be the cause of the card not having a HSF? Just a passive heatsink on the GPU & nothing on the RAM. Heat build up at boot? I always thought that ASUStek was a reliable brand to buy.

placid's hex list is right, but not the FF=225. it's a base-16 number system, so:

FF = (15 * (16^1)) + (15 * (16^0)) = 255.

another example:

2A3 = (2 * (16^2)) + (10 * (16^1)) + (3 * (16^0))
= 512 + 160 + 3
= 675.

hope that helps with your hex-to-dec conversions... you could always use windows calculator as well! ;)

Sonny,

You don't need a pci video card. If your video card doesn't like the changed setting just clear the kt7's bios with the cmos jumpers. That resets everything on the board. Later.

Thanks for all the help guys. The root of the problem seems to be something else. At one of my posts someone said that the AGP divider didn't like the 266Mhz FSB. Now I have no clue anymore on what is causing the problem at boot up. Why do I get "please check signal" when I try to boot up(just stays like that)? Now we kinda know its not the AGP Driving Value,can't be heat(Blue Orbs & a Dragon Orb for cooling) 34°C idle & 43°C playing Quake3 @ 1.2GHz 266FSB when I get it to boot. What could be the problem?
I'm starting to think that I can't oc this rig. How about a BIOS Flash to the latest version 3R? I HAVE NO CLUE ANYMORE!!!

if you have multiple dimms in there, then take them out one at a time. see if one of them is causing trouble.

it also sounds like it might be a power supply issue. i had a socket a board and duron that would sometimes not boot, and it was the pos power supply. got a better one and now it's fine. try and test your machine with a better supply? which one are you currently using?

proze-yes i do have 2 sticks of ram,2 X 128Mbs. its starting to not boot consistently if its at 266FSB(9 X 133) but seems ok at 200FSB(12 X 100). the psu is 300W & manufactured in thailand by Linkworld a total unknown! no chance of getting any highend psunits in my country unless you are willing to pay an arm & a leg plus your 1st born child. availability of relaible parts is usually next to none. i will list all my components bellow
