you need to install and setup internet connection sharing on his computer. The windows help has instructions on how to do it.

try using a program called analogx proxy(something like that)
u can find it on download.com this program requires no changing of bascially anything and it shares your internet connection
i use internet connection sharing at home. here's (http://www.annoyances.org/win98/features/ics.html) a link on how to do it. it's really simple, and works fine.
good luck!

Use Wingate (www.wingate.com) use the pro version, and configure a proxy server, then go to your network settings, and go to the TCP Ip protocol thats binded to your network adapter, then go to the gateway tab and put in the network ip of his machine, and it'll work beutifally:)
if use this way and want more detailed instructions then post it and ill type everything out in detail, but you sound like you know what your talkin about.
oh yeah, and make sure you configure your browser and msn im if you use it.
after making his pc shares his connection , go and make sure that ur pc is set to get an ip address automatically.
this way works in win 2k and win ME i don't know if it works with the win98se.9i think it will work)
hope that i've helped.

Why don't you just get a network hub?

He doesnt need a hub because hes only working with two computers, plus he's in college.
