Does anybody know of any companies other than WD that are planning on releasing a 10,000RPM(or higher) SATA HDD? It doesnt make sense to me that WD is the only company cashing in on this...

thanks,

It seems like Seagate just got done finishing up tagged command queuing, I didn't see anything on Maxtor's website.
www.Maxtor.com I'm too lazy to hunt though. :)

I couldnt find any info related to either of those manufactureres and a 10k SATA drive...As far as I can tell, the Raptor is the only 10,000RPM SATA drive on the market. I wish these other companies would hurry up and start producing them. Then maybe the costs would start dropping a little.

Honestly, I doubt that. I really don't see price dropping more than ten percent. The Raptor is essentially a SCSI drive(Western Digital is the only company NOT making SCSI drives) and inherently expensive. I agree, it seems a bit ridiculous that it's been MONTHS(Over a year?) And nobody else has bothered to compete with what is essenetially the most sought-after hard drive in the end-user market. =\

True, they may not go down alot, but $20 is $20 :D. Also, it would be pretty cool to be able to choose between several different models(manufacturers) when shopping around ya know? I wonder just how hard it is to make a SCSI design work on a SATA interface? Maybe we will eventually see those 15K drives integrated to SATA.

Segate has a 2.5in SCSI 10000rpm drive (called Savio, ~30Gb and ~80Gb models), maybe they will make an IDE model for laptops... and perhaps an IDE 3.5in drive too, if they already had the technology... Just a thought.

Does it matter WD makes the best drives anywhere wether it be 10k or 5400 rmp they are all better than any other brand in my optinion I have never owned another brand of drives except my maxtor one touch

Don't get me wrong I'm loving my 74 gig raptor, but if Seagate were to release a 10k rpm sata drive I would probably get that the next drive I buy. I haven't had very good experiances with any of the newer wd drives (besides this one,SCSI specs I would Imagine play a role there) Never had a Seagate go dead one me (besides of old age (6+ years)

I don't doubt it. Sata is looking at a 600MB/sec limit, for now. My guess is when 300(SATA2) comes out, we WILL see 15k drives at an affordable price.
