is there a slot (pci/isa) card that increases RAM space??? like, a card that u can use to put all your cheapie RAM into in order to increase RAM??? I know there is of course a MAX... but what if you had a bunch of small ram but only four slots. is there a way of increasing your RAM slots through cards????
sorry... dumb question.. just curious if such a thing existed...
what about for more IDE cable capacity?? would i need more software?? drivers???
i'm dumb...

first off i think this would go more in memory then storege..
i dont think its possable to have that..
onlythings u can do is get a new mobo or more ram
edit: guess i am wrong, and u can get come pci cards for ram... never seen em befor tho.
RAM drive cards do exist, but they are not used to increment RAM attached to the MB. The MB RAM is attached directly to the northbridge and has much higher available bandwidth. The RAM drive cards are limited to PCI/PCI-X bandwidth. The best condition is on a PCI-X 64 bit by 133Mhz bus and has a maximum theoretical bandwidth of 1 GB per second. Assuming you have a workstation or server board and a PCI-X capable RAM drive controller, this could make a fast swap file or temporary storage drive, but lags behind the bandwidth of all current on board memory. The RAM drives are assigned a drive letter and are accessed as physical drives, normally they lose all data when powered down. They are also usually exceedingly expensive and very picky on the types of RAM they accept. Finally, latencies are high due to working through the PCI/PCI-X bus and added controller latency. At this point they seem to be more in the class of expensive toys.
For additional IDE channels, PCI controllers are readily available in various pricing levels. Remember that optical drives are often not supported by these controllers and are best left on the primary and secondary onboard IDE controllers.

You CAN have PCI expansion cards that are dedicated RAM storage jobbies. Here (http://www.umem.com/pdf/MM-5460CN.pdf) is a Gigabit Ethernet card with an additional feature of 8GB of onboard RAM O.o
To expand the number of IDE devices you can connect to a system you need more ATA channels (more plugs). ATA only supports 2 devices per channel, so you need an addin card.
