My sound card has 6.1 surround sound support. (integrated card from A7N8x)
What kind of cable do I need to hook up this to a surround sound amplifier. the only jacks my sound card has are line in, mic and the what appears to be the standard headphone jack although it says it has support for 6.1 surround

The Mic port and Line In are switched to center/sub and L/R Rear. I'm not sure though how to configure it with that board. Usually there is a program that installs with your drivers for configuring your audio. The software will switch the ports. THen you would need a 5.1/6.1 channel input on your receiver to allow for True surround sound. Otherwise you could just hook it up via the green plug (front channels), to a stereo input on the receiver and emulate surround sound. Also if you board and receiver have digital connections, you can hook it up that way too.

I believe you only get the Dolby Digital (6 speaker) support with the A7N8X Deluxe model, which has optical output for use with a surround reciever. If you don't have the deluxe model, then you don't get the 6 channel surround.

Then you need 3x 1/8" stereo phone to dual RCA cables. And hook them up to your green, blue, and pink ports on you sound card (The stereo phone plugs). Then hook the RCA ends up to the 6 channel inputs on your receiver. You may have to play around with the connectors on the receiver to find out which connector is for FL, FR, C, S, RL, RR. Also you need to set up 5.1 channel audio both in the windows Sound control panel, and the program that installed with the drivers.

Your mobo supports spdif(digital out) sound thru a bracket and if your amp has 1 spare digital coaxial input that is the best way to go.
You will then get real dolby digita(and dts if supported by your amp) and the best possible sound quality with your setup.
I have a SB live and use the digital out to my home cinema, and it beats the the sq given by the ordinary analog jack outputs on the soundcard.

In page 1.17 in th A7n8x manual from asus website, they talk about a small bracket that you must attach to some connector on your mobo to get spdif input/output. It also says that it's optional. Do you have it? If you do you can go to a stero shop and tell them that you need a coaxial digital cabel. This cable you hook up to the bracket(spdif out) and to your amp. You probably have to configure the realtek-chip to use spdif output instead of the ordinary analog output. I bet this is done via the nforce2 sound configurator.

I understand the bracket now but i did not get one, do you think ASUS has them for sale somewhere, where should I look
Also other than digital the reciever has multi chanel in with what looks like room 3 rca plugs 1 for front 1 for rear and one for center and sub. I got that front connects to standard headphone port (green) rear goes to line in/out (blue) does the sub and center rca cable then connect to the mic port?
