View Full Version : Which power supply?

I just bought an X-Blade case that came with a 400W power supply, but I want to mod my own power supply as this one is rather cheap. I plan to run two 120mm fans, two 80mm fans, a cpu fan, and I have an ATI Radeon 9800XT vid card with a rather large fan on it as well (the card also requires a molex power connector be plugged into it).

For other hardware I will be running a Plextor DVD burner, a Lite-On DVD-ROM, a Western Digital 250gig hard drive, and a Mitsumi floppy with built in flash card readers. I will also be using some lighting. Can anyone recommend a good power supply that won't break the bank and be enough to power all this stuff? I've seen stand-alone power supply systems that you can add-on to your current power supply, but I'd rather stay with one unit. This is my first time modding a power supply so I don't really know what to look for to find a good one. Somewhere close to $150 in price would be fine.

Thanks a bunch!

The Antec looks pretty cool. I have an Antec LanBoy with I believe a 450W power supply. It's been working flawlessly for well over a year now so I can't complain.

Thanks for the links.

my old p2 450mhz has a 5 year old fortron, not one problem everything has been perfect with it, so I have no problems recommending fortron.

Well I went to zipzoomfly.com and tried to purchase the Antec PSU, but their Checkout page isn't working. So I guess I will have to wait and order from them by phone.

Newegg is a good place to order from as well. There have been a fair people who have experienced/are experiencing problems with their TrueControl 550, while I haven't hardly heard of anyone having problems with a Fortron 530.
