I have an hp pavilion 7855 that has a trigem cognac 3 mobo and i was wondering how can i overclock it with the jumpers on the mobo. My bios is a pheonix bios, i believe i would be able to overclock from there but hp took out some options so im trying to get the new version from firmware.com but havent been able to yet. So can anybody help me do it with jumpers.

Name brand PC's like yours are very hard if not impossible to overclock, you may try asking shadow about flashing your bios after installing a new BIOS chip but there is some risk that you could fry the chip and or it may not work Shadow one of our moderators has the correct info on this. Other then that your only other optin is to try some software called SoftFSB it can be found at www.tweakfiles.com the trick is to make sure your clock generator is supported.

If i upgrade my bios to a new version you think that might work? Cause maybe hp some changed the bios to there own liking.

A simple BIOS flash will not work as the BIOS chip has a block in it that will not let a normal flash work, you may try and ask Shadow and he may also have a program [or someone else may post] that will help you find your clock generator there is a program also Pinky or Ambientfiction may have it, send then a personal message.

Look at a few other post and in the MB section Shadow should be around and the other two are usualy here also look in the general section also but if you stay in the intel section you should have no problem. sorry i cant be more help but ive never tried either program, you may try a new post asking for SoftFSB help that may get a few more hits.

Bump.
It's common for HP's boards to give us a hard time when trying to overclock, because of all the things Outhouse has already explained.
Yes, a new motherboard would work, but I'm sure you don't want to have to spend more on what is probably a new PC.
I will say that most P3 1 GHZ overclock rather nicely, so it will be worth your time to keep trying.
Also take into consideration that even once you get the bios or jumpers set, the memory they include probably runs at 133mhz and probably not much higher.
Reason 2, 365, 166 I build my own PC... and probably get more performance for my $$ too.
