View Full Version : MOD X800 Pro ==>> to X800 XT
For those of you that have the card and willining to risk their hard earned money  i saw this article released today 6/16
http://www.lostcircuits.com/video/asus_x800/
which was based off of this one
http://www.pcunleash.com/bbs/zboard.php?id=MyItemReview&page=1&sn1=&divpage=1&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=26
Let us know if you try it out  And good luck :attn:
So if the 6800GT with 16pipes and with this card Moded into a 16Pipe  then the ATI would turn out to be the better deal wouldnt it? I was gonna wait to see the retail card testing for the Nvidia'a and see which is worth it more for overclocking but if this can be done with the pro then im jumping all over X800Pro What do you guys think of this? :eh?:

Well I have seen so far people are able to get break 12000 with the new beta 4.7 on the X800 pros running oced, but I want to see what the 6800GT can do oced myself.
so do you know of anyone that has O/C the X800 and also modded Unlocked the X800 to turn into an XT i should preform better with access to those extra 4 pipes

I'm going to try the hardmod this weekend most likely.
Hopefully we'll see it unlock and I'll post some results.

I really want to get my hands on that asus card, but everything I have heard from the manufactuerer and the retailers tells me I will have to wait until early july to see one.

I had an Asus 9800xt and out of all the 9800xt's... it was the lowest performing one.
Hardly overclocked whatsoever... cool to get all the extras but I would have rather had an overclockable faster card...
That's why I went with sapphire for my x800...
Good luck on that Mod Doc Hope all goes well and see your results, remember dont Drink  and mod :D

Well I attempted the hardmod last night on my Sapphire x800 pro.
I found I had a GBxxx.1 chip.
Unfortunately my first try was a failure. I flashed the bios and checked but still 12 pipelines. I've been reading more of the UK forums on the topic and I think however that I might have had to scratch a protective layer off the top of the bridges, which I did not do, so later this week when I get my chieftech case in and install my watercooling I will take another shot at it.
Cool thing though, I tried overclocking it...
holy these X800s have one hell of a high overclocking ceiling. It was unreal how high I was taking it on air without any sort of volt mod. (This is with 3dmark 2003 running without artifacts - no scores YET though because my computer isn't rebuilt, I was testing it on my parents old cpu..) Now I'm definately looking forward to putting water and ramsinks on it and seeing how fast I can get it flying.

hmm so you tried the defogger mod on a .1 chip and still don't have it working. I would try it again because scratching at the chip is actually the wrong method and has been warned against doing so. I would tape off the pins you need and try the mod again and reflash it before resorting to scratching on the core of a 400+ dollar video card.

Sigh.
They make such a convincing argument to do it though...

I will most definately try again, whether or not I scratch the pins is still in the air.

i took i 30x-45x microscope to look at the pins that are supposed covered with something, it was bare dull copper and it is hard to mistake the surface of metal. and notice that only the First 3 people on that thread was able to do the mod, i'd check the pcunleashed thread. if you decide to scratch the pins do it very lightly

Well when you say it that way...
I guess it's stupid to scratch anymore.
Damn, I guess I'll just try my luck once more, and then proceed to volt mod it and oc the hell out of it.

But what would it accomplish if the copper is already exposed?

maybe i could be wrong? but thats if all else fails. it would suck if you had a moddable card, and didn't mod because no scratchy. if you do scratch it, try it on half of the pin or maybe just a line through it. i tried the mod with 2 cards, both scratched and they both failed. this is boefore i pulled the microscope out and read the pcunleash thread

But you're so damn believable. :D
We'll see. Maybe I will try a little tiny lightly.
Or maybe I'll change my mind 15 times more. :sn:

Ai, my trichome microscope always tells the truth ;) and another point is if there is something sheilding the metal, how are people getting resistance readings? maybe they're scratching all the pins ;)

yeah, its just all for benchmarking though, at default speeds this card will tear up everygame except far cry, 60+fps is good for me. i play with it OCed at 525/525

mmmm far cry...
I love that game so much.
This computer is going to run S.T.A.L.K.E.R like a dream.
Well, if the hardmod dosen't work, you can always scratch the connections as a last resort. Worst case is that you will be unable to hardmod the card (cuz you scratched off the connetions), though if your card hasn't hardmodded yet, I don't see how that's exactly a 'worst case' :D
Good luck on the voltmod :) I swore to never do one again after killing my 8500 and having to game on an Xpert128 for 5 months while I scraped for money again.

i scratched mine till i got shiny copper using very small awl
used permatex defroster compound ( high copper content)
failed miserably
vmod almost no help on ocing either..guess this board is close to its max
one bonus taking off the large loogie of stock hspaste and replacing with AS5 dropped my idle temp to 35c

We'll see, this upcoming week I'm gunna attach my watercooling to the card and see what happens.
