Earlier this month, I had a problem where my system would reboot after the ntoskrnl.exe screen would appear. I fixed it with chkdsk in the recovery console. Now, after it worked and I rebooted to fix an Nvidia problem, it hangs on the black screen between the ntoskrnl.exe and logonui.exe screens, sits for about 3min and restarts. I did a repair from the XP cd as well as a manual copy of both the files, no luck. I can't start in safe mode either. Any help/ideas?

I checked today using Knoppix, and the hard drive is not corrupt. I'm running with that CD now, but it would be real nice if I could get my M$ os running again

Is this a dual boot system?

it used to have Redhat installed on a different HD, it would go to a boot menu on that drive, but I uninstalled Redhat and changed the primary boot drive back to the Windows drive...never had this problem before after that

i ran fixmbr, it did find a non-standard boot record, fixed it and such, but it's still not booting and the problem is still the same

would there be any tools on the UltimateBoot CD that would be worthwhile to look into on this?

Ok, so i reformatted the drive on a different computer and transferred all my files back and it ran smoothly. I put it back into my machine and it says

"Cannot boot from disk: This disk was formatted with CP Backup
Insert another disk and press any key"

What is that? Is this a problem with the motherboard? I can still boot from a CD, but this never happened before, not even when this hard drive couldn't boot. Any help?

EDIT: Now it just says

NTLDR is missing
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

What is going on here?
