i just moved to raleigh nc, and i took my lian li tower on the plane. i packaged it up nice. ect took off hsf tied everything down. i put it in the case it came in foam and all. they wouldn't let me carry it on so i put it under. it was packed VERY WELL. i get it. the box is trashed. take it home open it up. the case is dented so much i can't even get the side panel off. i take it back over to the airport. they don't belive its broken they said oh its just cosmetic damage. so i pry the side panel off with the end of a hammer. the harddrives were ripped out of their cages (screwed in with 4 screws) bouncing around. tore up my dfi infinity and mobile barton. my 8x dvd rw drive and liteon burner are shot too. they basically told me tough **** and get my ass out of there

im so ****ing ****ed off i want to kill someone right now.

Moral of the story:

If you care about something, ship it fedex and NOT on AirTrans Air, or any other airline (including Delta DASH Cargo) for that matter.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I hate the airlines, no matter what. I feel your loss but don't give up, fight them. Ask for the higher up in the chain, keep kicking and screaming untill they either kick you out or just give in.

I'm about ready to fly to California for a job this summer. I was gonna have my PowerMac on the plane with me, but you guys are making me have seconds thoughts about that.

Huge Dell box + lots of those little peanuts + wrapped in clothes that won't fit my suitecase = possibly good enough?

What do you guys think?

Sorry to hear about your loss, Xenocide! It really sucks when computing equipment unnecessarily dies.

Man that sucks. I would have taken everything out (except for the case) and put it in a suitcase I carried it on board myself. And hopefully the case would have been fine. Keep bugging them and hopefully they'll give in.

Welcome to North Carolina!!!

Absolutely not. While most ramprats don't try to break stuff...loading stuff onto an airplane is inherently rough on delicate equipment.

Your best bet is to Federal Express it...in spite of the cost, it's still cheaper than replacing your Power Macintosh.

Important safety tip: You can usually look out the terminal windows and see how they fling stuff into the aircraft cargo compartments. If you do not want your stuff thrown ten feet only to have more stuff thrown on top, it goes in carry on. Also, you only get one carry on that is about twice the size of a brief case. Sometimes you get lucky and you can have two if they are small but don't plan on that.

If you have to check a computer, take out the HSF and proc and pack the drive bays and case with bubble wrap. Even then, you can have case damage. Also, never pack the inside of your case with anything like peanuts as the static will be sure to kill something.
