Multiplier ?

I have an HP 8766c with a P3 900 coppermine, and I looked around on my board to see if there were any CPU Frequency jumpers, and found a sort of chart of the multiplier supported by the MOBO. Weird things are, there are no jumpers (probably ripped off by HP !:mad: ), and the max multiplier on the chart was 8.0x, while my CPU has a multiplier of 9 ! So, I know Intel chips are multi locked, so does that mean that even if a board doesn't support a certain multiplier, if you put a chip in it with a higher multiplier than supported, it will work at the multi of the chip ?
Or am I completely lost ?

maybe it is supported, but the multiplier is auto detected, for example my board has multiplier settings on te board, and in biod (jumperless), i guess those multipins dont do anthing

yah thats what it means,
if your mobo only supports multipliers of upto 2 (just an example) and you put in a celery 700 (66x10.5) it would take the chip default over the mobo specified

Thanks a lot for your quick responses ! Now I know 1 good thing about the multiplier lock : don't need the latest board to make it work !
