Actually I thought serious Sam was more fun. Max Payne has the best graphics. It is cool that you can shoot everything and it all reacts differently. And bullet time is cool. But after waiting 18 months it was kind of anti climatic.

It depends. Do you like 3rd person perspective shooters? Personally, they annoy me more than anything. Max gets in the way - too often.
The bullet time thing is ok at first, but it starts to feel a little too gimmicky after a while. Especially, when you pretty much need to use it in certain situations.
Lastly, what's up with Max's face? Looks constipated all the time.
Sorry Maxxy but it was just a little too Payneful for me.

its a tight game its on my list of the top 4 first person shooters:
1>Half Life (of course)
2>Unreal Tournement
3>Max Payne
4>Soldier of Fortune
out of all of these max has the best graphics by far....
Hehehe I just got Max Payne the other day. The graphics are so sweet. I just wish I would have more time to play when college starts.
but i wiont be able to get it for $15 i will have to get it for $35 :(

You write reviews for a living? ;)
I think the game rules. I don't even play UT unless I'm networked, so for a game to keep my attention as well as Payne does, it gets 2 thumbs up from me.
Yes, the graphics rule.

I just picked up MP a few days ago and I have figured out one thing. Man do I stink at this game! The graphics are incredible but I'm having a hard time getting used to a stationary target that the world moves around, instead of the opposite that I'm used to w/ Half Life, QIII, etc. I can't sit down for 5 min at a time w/o dying. I can't find anything to ease up the skill level so this one may take a while for me :)

go to www.gameguru and get a trainer
Graphics were great, gameplay is great but it is way too short.
I wouldn't pay $35 for it...took me one week to finish of only a couple hours a nite.

I think I paid like $40 or $50 for it. Good game, although it only took me a weekend to beat it. No replay value whatsoever. I'm just waiting for a good mod to come out for it. Great graphics, and, yes I'd buy it again if I had it all to do over again :)

I don't see how you can say no replay value! I'm busy playing it for the second time through on the more difficult mode, then I'll go to the New York Minute! When I was playing I would limit my savegames so I could go through long parts again and see how much better I could do it! I really love it, and you should really get it, esp for $35!

Am I the only one that thinks this game is WAYYYY overrated?
The graphics are OK, nothing exceptional. Sound is again OK, but the guns are rather weak I think.
Gameplay is appalling, the levels are absolutely linear, you need to use bullet-time in just about any shoot-out with more than one person, and why is it that the bad guys can 'see' you when you're behind a pillar in the dark about 20 yards away just because you've moved into their 'zone'.
Frankly, it gets boring after about 3 levels, it's all the same, shoot shoot shoot, no thought required. This may be fine for some, but give me Deus Ex any day.
What else, oh yeah, some lovely random lock-ups, graphical corruption and bombing back to desktop (some fixes with the patch which interestingly enough was out about the day after the game, that says a lot).
And I know it's meant to be a blizzard (in my opinion a few flakes of snow do not constitute a 'blizzard', but why are there no people on the go? this is meant to be New York, 8 million odd inhabitants, hello? they can't all be on vacation or indoors.
Oh and the 'comic-book' story telling absolutely sucks, who wrote Max's script?
Just my opinion of course. Don't believe the hype!

I say...Don't believe Violator!! :D I think you're just bitter case your Radeon can't push the triangles! ;) And the comic book style is classy...what was the last game you saw with actual original style? And saying it's linear isn't fair. Of course it's linear, so is Deux Ex! Yeah, yeah, you can do it multiple ways, but you're still stuck in their linear story. And you can't tell me that that ass excuse for storytelling rendered cut scenes are any good! The least they could have done is pre-rendered each of the endings so it's not so bad, and that graphics engine is terrible!
Enough about Deux Ex...even though the game takes a relatively short time to complete, everything just screams quality. The textures, the interactive environments(take yesterday, there were some pipes on the ceiling in the laundry room, so I shot one, and it started spurting steam! -obviously I then whipped out the ingrams and added 50,000 steam holes into em!). I'm going through it the second time through and plan to do a third run, too, even though every time I quit the game windows ME freezes on me(which I rightfully blame on the OS, not the game). Great game, you should go get it if you don't have it.

Excuse me bud but my rig is more than capable of running this game.
At least in Deus Ex you have different ways of getting through levels, you don't HAVE to kill every **** in sight.
Oh and you can shoot the scenery? big deal, I remember being able to do that in Half-Life.
For a game that took 4 years to develop, it's a pretty ****-poor effort.
But hey each to their own, I just prefer to occasionally have to use my brain now and then in a game.

The ending isn't half ****e! I won't spoil it for everyone who hasn't completed it... but a good game needs a good ending and this just hasn't got it :(

max payne was a great game; great story, great graphics and has some replay value-at least i'm playing it again. it is a little dissapointing after being in development for so long and it turning out so short, but oh well. its still a damn good game. they said it would be the next half-life, its not but its still a damn good game. now i'm really looking forward to duke nukem forever!

Hmm, "to each his own", followed by "i just prefer to occationally have to use my brain now and then in a game." Sounds like you're just beggin to get yourself in a flame war, or something. To launch an attack is completely unnecessary. You didn't enjoy the game, good for you. I did, good for me. Notice my response to yours was still in good humor, you don't have to drench yours in sarcasm and write it with passive aggresive motives.

You guys all know that Duke Nukem Forever is going to DECIMATE Max Payne, right? I mean, that's just understood, right? I thought so.

I was wondering if my ancient pc could run max payne......
Here are its specs :
AMD k6-2 300
160 MB SDRAM
16MB voodoo 3
32x cd rom
I doubt it can but maybe you guys with similar pcs ended up playing it, give me your opinions/comments and if you want/have the time can anyone suggest a motherboard/cpu upgrade? I'm thinking of upgrading my dinosaur but having a hard time deciding what I should get or if I should wait until boxing day to get better deals or something......
ok thanks :D
