I have a p3 733 chip on a MSI MS-6309 motherboard.

I haven't had any luck with overclocking it so far. At high speed attempts, I have gotton it to "806B Mhz". No idea what the heck the "b" means, and I haven't tried booting windows at this setting, since my multiplyer settings did not multiply to this hertz rating.

If anyone knows of a frequency or anything that this chip will run at, that'd be great.

Thanks

Noot

well that happens on my board, for example it will say 800 EB at boot, but then it will be at 828 mhz(anything higher or lower however is represented correctly), my suggestion to you is to go up slowly and burn in at each level while watching temps, with p3 the b means that there is an fsb of 133, which of course is wrong because a 733 is already at 133, once you raise the fsb higher it should show the correct speed.....

Since the Intel multiplier's are locked your only way of overclocking will be to raise FSB and CV [core voltage] to your CPU. Your best bet at this time would be to go through the tips section and get yourself a good background, the more you learn the better your overclock will be.

Had a couple EB chips and the bios always tacked on the EB regardless of the speed - think it's just saying the chip was meant for 133 bus instead of 100. Take a chip designed for 100 and overclock it to 133 and you won't see a B after it.

actually if i oc my 100fsb 600mhz chip to 800 or 828 mhz, it does show the EB at the end, aything else will just show the speed at boo up

That's a new one for me - must be on certain boards. For instance I have had a couple of 700E's overclocked to 930 (7X133) and the board read 930E MHz, but I used a 1GHz chip in the same board and it says 1000EB MHz. Some boards must look at the chip itself, while others just automatically put that up at that particular frequency regardless of what the chip is.
