View Full Version : Where is XP hiding my downloads?

Every so often one of my downloads is corrupted, so I delete it and download it again. But since I upgraded to XP Pro, regardless of whether I use Firefox or IE, the file is immediately "finished" downloading and it's the exact same screwed up copy of the file. And I can't find the temp folder it's hiding the downloads in (and taking up a huge amount of space), so I can delete the copy and actually re-download it.

In firefox, go to Tools > Options. Then click on the Downloads icon, and on the top you should find what you are looking for. I personally download everything to my documents, then about once a month I go in and organize it all.

did you try to go to tools > internet options then under temporary internet files click "delete files" and then select delete all offline content then select ok? try that and redownload... might work

Of course you could always just use the search function and search for the filename of the corrupt download and delete it from there. After SEARCH finds it, you will know where that secret location is. I'd be willing to bet it's in your profile somewhere.

Personally, I create a folder on my desktop that I name DOWNLOAD and when asked by the prog where I want to download it to, that's where I put. Solves the problem of searching for the location.

Cheers!!

First thing you do, is uncheck HIDE HIDDEN FOLDERS...so that you can see hidden folders. I hope you know how to do that.

AFter that, here's how you find it. Go to MY COMPUTER, DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS......then.....choose your name or the USER name that its logged on..for example if your user name is Joe when you logged on, go to the folder JOe's Documents and Settings..........then.........Local Settings......then TEMP and ALL OF YOUR DOWNLOADS WILL BE THERE.

Your temp directories are listed under windows+pause break (system properties)>advanced tab>environment variables button. You may have more temp directories depending on what programs you run, and if you ever need to find their temp files this will tell you how to also. You should be able to find what you are looking for by following feras04's advice.

Welcome to the forums feras. :)

I manually save each and every file with Firefox, the default obnoxiously being the desktop, and all hidden and system files are shown. I'll have to delete all offline content and redownload it. It's just bugging the crap out of me because I don't know why it's doing this now, and it's never before. Before I just deleted it and redownloaded it, but not anymore.
