your best bet is to hit the online stores, try newegg.com. they have good prices and S&H quality; also try pricewatch.com. DON'T try fticomputers.com!

Ordering on-line is probably going to be you're only chance of finding a K6-2 or K6-3. I know www.tigerdirect.com has these CPUs in stock, but check out prices carefully. Right now, they're listing a K6-2/550 for $54.99. That seems pretty pricey to me, considering they also list an Athon 800 (t-bird) for $49.99! Also, if you look at tigerdirect, be sure to double check if they ship to Canada...I don't know. One final thought, although I've had pretty good luck with tigerdirect, I've read here in the forums that several other people have had bad luck.
REAL STORES plz I don't trust online shopping and the customer service isn't that good.
If you're going to limit yourself to "BRICK & MORTAR" stores, you are going to severly limit your options. I would suggest that you re-think your position and start to realize the benefits that shopping over the internet can provide.
I believe that a lot of the on-line stores will let you purchase on line and send a check / money order. if you're concerned with credit card / checking account information on-line.
By the way, I've also had very good results with "TIGER DIRECT" myself and would recomend them to anybody.

Same here used tigerdirect.com a few years ago when I built my first pc. I've since migrated to internet places like pricewatch.com to find the better deals. Tigerdirect is higher is the only reason I no longer buy from them, BUT you don't have to worry about getting the shaft from an unknown retailer on the underside of the US(no so reputiable). I try to buy from online retailers that have been around for awhile as well since I don't ahve to worry that they're a here today, got your money, gone tomorrow place. Reseller ratings are a HUGE help in making purchases as well since it lets you know its a good place to do business and it's trustworthy.
However if your desperate I have a amd k6-2 300 mhz and a k6-2 500 mhz I might sell you. Both are working right this minute(I'm upgrading this week to ddr platforms). You really are better buying a newer one though as my 300 is now 3 yrs old and the 500 is a year or 2 old as I can't remember when it was bought.
May keep the chips and build my sisters pc's with them...

You guys have to be kidding right. There is no way in hell you're going to be able to get one of those in a retail store. Your best bet is one of those little hole in the wall local shops that sell used stuff.
At least CSaddict got my drift

Actually, if you're in the Ottawa-Carleton region, there are some stores that have some in stock. One of them I found was OEM computers, they had some new K6-2 500 MHz, but they were kind of expensive : 79 $$ can !
Thank u here one guy that is trying to answer my question

If it's got to be a "real" store, then I'd say it's time to get out your phone book and start calling every PC store in Toronto. Alternatively, you could search pricewatch.com and look at the store address listed for those stores that stock a K6-2. Call the stores that have a Toronto address. Pricewatch usually has phone numbers too.
If he called every computer store in T.O. he'd be on the phone for ever!!! Here's where you want to go:http://www.canadacomputers.com They're the people I've dealt with lately and they've got about the best prices in the G.T.A.
Thanks eobard I'll check them out. And i think us Canadian should stick together. And i wonder why are ppl so far south telling me to go online after i asked for a store downtown. ne way thanks for the help!
No problem.
Don't get worked up about it. It's pretty easy to assume that were all the same kinds of people given our close proximity and the fact that we share mostly the same language but I've learned that americans are really a different creature than us in many ways. For one thing they've embraced e-commerce far more completely than we have.

Try NCIX.com. They're based in B.C. and I'm in Manitoba but I've ordered there plenty and never had any problems. They ship through purolator and I usually get everything within a week.
They currently have a K6-2 500 for $66 in stock. It is more than CanadaComputers but they may not have one in stock.
Hehe, The oh so subtle american bashing. Well people are just trying to steer you in another direction, Buying online can be great as long as you research (www.resellerratings.com). I know a great store www.newegg.com has great prices and is very reliable. Especially if your lookin for a very old part, or discontinued part.

you could also check ebay and yahoo-auctions for that chip. Alot of those places ("brick and mortar") stores will sell stuff on ebay sort of at clearance. Most of them do it just to get rid of it. I'm sure you could find one there.. Not sure if any of them are in/around canada but it's worth a shot.
Here's a link to what a search of AMD 550 came up with, havn't checked if any are canadian but the prices seem cheap..
dunno just tryin to help.. Not living in canada I really don't know what to tell ya but good luck!
