... You can remove the Power on password through BIOS, i.e you press F1 when booting ... of course you have to give it the password once to reach BIOS.

Call IBM support, give them the serial number. They will then give you a password to get in, or will give you an address to send it too!!! If it has the smartchip/crypto inside it, good luck.

You could always try dropping by the IT department of the company it came from. They could either fix it, or point you to the origional user (via serial number) to clear it.
Asking them politely goes a long way.
Posting the same question across several discussion rooms does not...I understand your impatience to get it running, but dang!

Luck to ya bud!

woud help if you gave your exact model.
open up the ram compartmens and wifi see if you can get access to the cmos battery aand remove it for about a 1/2 hour.
if the laptop dont have a cmos battery then you will have to figure out if the laptop has either a jumper to change they can be under the keyboard sometime or maybe have solder beads you will have to use a piece of copper wire to jump.
just google it you migh find a vid on it

when the screen comes up with the icons, enter your password followed by the spacebar then if you want to change it, type in a new one and press enter, if you want to remove it just press enter after hitting the spacebar:clap:

Hi Necromancer... I worked today to figure out how to reset or remove the power on pw, finally pulled out the ole trusty thinkpad manual and that is how it's done :-)
