Hi, I am looking for a client for this sun box I picked up. It's got an ultrasparcIIi (64bit) and is running gentoo linux now. I don't know much about seti as I am a member of the other team usualy. I would also like to have it start on boot so I do not have to maintain it much at all.

I can't be sure, but one of the two below may work. In the first case don't know if the UltraSparcIII is bacwards compatible with the Sparc, and in the second, I don't know if Solaris is compatible with Gentoo (..probably not methinks..)

sparc-unknown-linux-gnu (ftp://alien.ssl.berkeley.edu/pub/setiathome-3.03.sparc-unknown-linux-gnu.tar)
sparcv9-sun-solaris2.7 (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/unix.html)

You can also look on the client download page (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/unix.html) for others if those don't work.

WOOO HOO, I got myself a sparc :) If u have gentoo linux running, just get the sparc linux client. unfortunately they dont have a 64-bit linux client, so to utilize all the processing power, u would ahve to go towards solaris. . . .Frankly, it doesnt really matter, they dont pump out too many units either way. Sparcs definately give u bragging rights though :)

"yeah, lemme just toss this onto my Apache server on my Sparc"
"in make.conf: CHOST=sparc64-Sun4u-linux-gnu"

soo cool

Been thinking of buying a second hand sparc box, I know they're not the best crunchers around but it might be alot of fun to play around with. Or maybe an alpha?
