Ok so i am thinking about picking up a voodoo 5500 but i am not sure yet. I want to hear some opinions on the people who went from a voodoo 5500 to a geforce 2 pro or higher. I want you to tell me if i should buy a voodoo 5500 or a geforce 2 pro or higher from your experiences. Or should i just buy a voodoo 5500 and then wait until the geforce 3 pro or ultra come down in price like next year.
Thanks
VOODOO 5500 THAT ARE NOW GEFORCE 2 OWNER RESPOND ONLY.
I DONT CARE ABOUT PEOPLE WHO NEVER OWNED A 3DFX BASED CARD
THANK YOU

Well I currently have a Voodoo5, and once toyed with a Geforce2 GTS in some games. I think you know which one I liked better because I have the one I liked better :)
There are way to many pros and cons to each one, so you asked to have our opinions, and I gave you mine :) I would go for the Voodoo5.

i went from a voodoo 5500 to a hercules gforce 2 mx and regretted it although the 2mx was quicker you only notice it in benchmarks.the voodoo 5500 was the only card i ever had that my games worked flawlessly on i never had to configure anything but the resolution.the picture quality was really good.if you have a fast processer 1 gig or more the price is right for the voodoo it wont let you down.i have a radeon 64 meg ddr right now but i am looking for another voodoo 5500 at a decent price just incase my current card ever fails.

Thanks guys for your help
I recently bought a geforce 2 pro and swaped it out for my voodoo 3 3000 overclocked and i didnt see a hell of a difference so i brought the card back. I now have the voodoo 3 which i am happy with but i do miss the better colors in direct3d.
I think the only card that will satisfy me right now is the geforce 2 ultra or do you think i should just spend 100 bucks and get the voodoo 5500

I think i decided what i want to do
I will buy the voodoo 5500 and wait until the geforce 3 ultra comes out and drops to the 200-250 range.
The picture quality is just alot better anti alising and fsaa on the voodoo than it is on the geforce 2. Only the geforce 3 has just begun to use the fsaa as good as the voodoo 5500 and the radeon 2 will also be better. However until then i would rather purchase the voodoo card
did i make the right decesion?

I dont know i might just buy the geforce 2 ultra for 197+shipping made by visiontek. However i think once the radeon 7500 and 8500 appear next month the ultra will be down to 170 bucks.
Or i could just call it a day and say scew nvidia and buy a voodoo 5500 with no driver support and use that card for about a year and then buy a geforce 3. I think the extra 60-100 bucks will be worth it just to buy the ultra with 4ns ddr ram and then update the new detonator 4 drivers with the card. So i should see a vast fps improvment over the voodoo 5500 and with 4xfsaa enabled. The only thing i will be hateing is the loss of picture quality from the ultra in games compared to the voodoo 5500. Right now the voodoo 5500 is 110 bucks oem and i can just spend 85-100 bucks more and get a better card that will have support. If only the voodoo cards were like 70-90 bucks i would definitly buy one right now. I just cant believe on ebay that the voodoo 5500 cards are going to 110+ i mean even the pci cards are like 130. Anyway I think the newer geforce 3 cards such as the mx or pro will be better in FSAA than all the cards currently out today except for the radeon 8500 or higher. i will probbly will just upgrade to a geforce 3 ultra in a 1.5 years and by then the geforce 4 will be coming out and then it will be a whole another confusing situation.
P.s I hate the Video card industry ever since 3dfx died
I have all of the cards mentioned above, I have a lot of machines :) One important thing I have found in video cards is the drivers. Drivers make or break a card. An inferior card can be better then a superior card just because it has better drivers. The V5 5500 is a nice card and the current drivers work very well but the problem is if any incompatabilities come up in the future you are out of luck......no support! ATI has been less then stellar with its driver support. IMHO NVidia is the way to go they make a good product and to much more work on drivers then the competitors and that means a lot to me.
Good driver support is number 1! I still miss my old 3dfx cards- I think they LOOKED every bit as good with 12 and 16mb as my GeForces do with 32 and 64! But driver support got sketchy so I switched.
