Hi, I can boot with a PCI vid card, but not my R9800P - no beeps, no POST.

Which of the following could be the reason for the card dying?

1.I got a refubrished board from a store  after my previous died.
The board's NB fan wasn't spinning , but I saw it only after a while.

2.After connecting the R9800 I didn't connect the 4-pin power cable and powered on for a few seconds without it.

3.A monitor killed it with a bad contact on plug.

4.The BIOS chip is corrupted, and caused the death.
Works fine tight now.

The card looks new, nothing smells, only one of the contacts on tiny resistor near the BGA chip looks a little etched .

Help plz asap. :(

I've powered mine up a bunch of times when I forgot to plug the power cable in. My motherboards beeps at me so I shut it off an plug it in. No problem. I don't think its the monitor plug as I've never heard of that. I'd have to see the "etched resistor" to call that.

Try moving the card. A couple times I installed mine in my DFI and it was sitting wrong I got no response. I had to lift the outer edge and all was well. Its a long shot but its worth a shot.

Thanks for the reply!

I did try to relocate the card a few times, I'm sure it was sitting right.

The "etched" resistor has a white-grey color on one of its' sides - but it's probably because of the white goop I applied on the BGA chips for ramsinks, and a little left over.
But one of the contact seems to have more soldering iron, or perhaps the iron got melted and overflown ? There is a little iron circles near some of the resistors, that could have been the source of the soldering iron.
I never really seen a burned resistor before.

Note that even though I could run the card overclocked(signature), I ran it for the last moth underclocked to 300/275 , had ramsinks an open side case and a dedicated fan blowing over it - so it's not an issue of (over-)heating.

BINGO! Even if it still worked after that the life of the core was probably shortened drastically during the period there was no fan.

EDIT: Whoops. I though he meant the fan on the card wasn't spinning.

But what's the connection betweeen the NVidia SPP NB not cooled and the AGP vide card dying?

NB=northbridge Mr.Radar. You must have missed that.

Some cards just die on you. My 9100 just started artifaction one day, for no reason. Anyway, you can send the card to me instead of throwing it out, ill pay for shipping.

Where do the rockets go off ? :) Chersonnes or Djankoy? :D

Sorry to disappoint you , Yuriman, but the card is alive eventually.

I didn't do anything 'illegal' to the parts so I went to the store to check them, and they told me I fried my AGP slot :\ , and go my board replaced(warranty). Now I have a 3rd recycled NF7, this time with some exposed traces on the back ( they arent gold or copper by the way, but the usual cheap 'olovo' ), and the card is working.

I thought this info could be valuable .
