View Full Version : Is my pavilion overclockable?

I have a HP pavilion 9870 with a 1.3Ghz pentium 4, can I overclock it without changing the mobo. The current board is an ASUS, chipset- Intel 850, pga 423, FSB 400Mhz.

I hate to say it but I really doubt it. Name brand computers like HP, Dell, and Compaq, really bassicly lock you off from any overclocking possible. You can try the proggie called SOFT Fsb, that might work. GOod luck

Get Soft FSB, then open up your computer and look for the pll-ic. It's a rectangular chip on the motherboard, about and inch or so long and maybe a quarter inch wide, and it almost always has a small oval shaped silver metal colored quartz clock chip next to it - that's how you track it down. Write down the make and id numbers on the pll chip. A common manufacturer of these is ICS. Take this info and look through the list of pll-ic chips in Soft FSB. If you find yours you might be able to access it with Soft FSB. The pll-ic chip is what sets the operating frequency of the bus, and by raising this you overclock the chip. When using Soft FSB, don't try to increase the speed in large increments - use the smallest steps one at a time.

I myself am with SETI and I am very Impressed by your set-up. What do you mean by soft FSB???

soft fsb is a program you can download that will help overclock your cpu, you can get it at www.tweakfiles.com....
