(wow, haven't been here in a while... forums are different [better])

Anywho...

This will most likely be a overkilled question but here it goes:

How do I tell Nero that I want to burn to a blank DVD instead of a blank CD?

I'm using:

Nero 6 + Sony DRU-530A (with latest firmware) + Maxell media.

I was able to change to graph on the bottom to reflect a 4.7gb disk (instead of the 700mb limit), I was able to view the blank DVD via. nero. But when I load up stuff to be burned to DVD, it spits out the blank disk, and says something like "media not supported" :-/

I was able to make a ghost of my OS with Norton, so I know nothings wrong with the burner.

is it the latest version of nero, and does nero recognize your dvd drive as a dvd burner. What type of burner is it? Does the burner support the media you are using?

With Nero 6 when you start up with Nero Express there's 2 tabs in the top right corner. Default is CD. Click the other one and it will change it to DVD.

if your not using express.
in burningRom the new compilation dialog box has a drop down box in the top left corner where you can choose cd/dvd.

btw, have you got the latest nero updates? ver 6.3.1.15. i updated before i tried burning and have never had a problem (using extremely cheap meadia too).

Time to move stuff off of my CDs

Keep your (old) CD's, they just may last longer than your DVD's....I recently tried a CD that was less than 4 years old....it was a nogo on several drives (The CD-R is in perfect shape!!) and CD-R's are supposed to last more than 10 years (I've heard stories about 75 years), but I've also heard stories about 'cheap' DVD media lasting as little as 3 months...hell all I know is that most DVD media won't last much longer as 1 year.

Maybe some of the real old stuff (burner and/or media) is more reliable, but I sure wouldn't place my bets on it.
