Ok, so I installed a new mobo a while back and had very slow boot and install times, so after a while I get fed up and format. Still the same problem. Format again. Same thing. Swap out my old mobo that I know was working fine before. STILL SLOW! Install linux. Flys like a champ. Is there a certain ammount of times you can partition and format a hard drive before things start to not run properly? I've installed Mandrake 10 on the partition I had windows on before and there is no problems now, but when windows was on here, it was the slowest thing! Anyone have experience with this?

Never had that problem before. Have you tried updating your chipset drivers in Windows. Windows update never does a very good job for me of finding the available updates so I go into the device manager and make them search for updates manually.
My WDs fly, I have a WD1200JB on my AMD rig.

I'd make sure that you have all the relevant Windows Updates and that the drivers are properly installed and such. Should you feel so compelled, you can re-install every driver. But I don't think the problem is with the WD hard drive...2 of my 3 computers have WDs as the boot HD and they work no problems
