Are there SATA Optical drives?

I was just wondering if there are any SATA optical drives? Or is IDE fast enough for them? If anyone has any thoughts/ideas I thought it would be an interesting disscussion. Thanks!

would be nice to get rid of those wide ide ribbon cables, without having to spend extra money on rounded cables.

Yea, and you would need SATA optical drives if they ever wanted to completely do away with IDE on motherboards. Maybe its too expensive for optical drives and its just not worth it to the companies.

I haven't seen any SATA Optical Drives that have been released, but Abit makes a IDE --> SATA Adaptor that allows you to use IDE CD-ROM Drives. However, it only works with Silicon Image Controllers, but I would think that another manufacturer makes a similar product.

Furthermore, there are a few SATA Optical Drives in the works. Plextor in particular has a SATA-based DVD-RW drive that hasn't been released yet.

That's cool. It says mid-June for a release date, but I would say its already past that, so it should be out any day now I guess. I wonder how much it will go for?

pricewatch shows 2 if you search PX-712SA little on the pricey side but plextor always is.

I would wait for the 2nd generation of Sata drives just so they get all the kinks worked out
