I just ordered a Radeon DDR 64 Meg. Any body have any advice for as to what I should do to it? Should I replace the fan? Newest Drivers? Tips on overclocking.

Thanks

You bassicly answered all your own questions :)

What you should do is replace the HSF with a small socket7 HSF, get the latest drivers for the card, and overclock it till you cant anymore.

You can epoxy a Blorb on it, or epxoy a socket 7 HSF fan on it. If you lap the Blorb it will perform decent and look cool.

The best drivers I have found are the newest ones out by ATI, I stay away from the third party and beta drivers. I use my VideoIn quite often and most 3rd party drivers don't support it. Also use DirectX 8.0a.

As far as overclocking goes its not worth it on the Radeon. I have seen minimal performance gains and in some cases performance losses from OC'ing a RADEON. However if you do decide to OC it, Clock the chip and the memory synchroniously. (Same speed) You will lose performance if the chip speed isn't the same as the memory.

Keep in mind that you have DDR memory. It runs 2x the chip speed. Some programs show them the same, some dont. If your tweak program of choice shows them the same, then make sure your memory is 2x the speed of the core (ie. Core=200Mhz Memory must be 400Mhz).

The best tweaking program out there IMHO is Radeon Tweaker. The guy took his time and made a great program and even gives a html based info sheet on the effects of the changes of all the changes you can make with the program. Very well done.

there might be minimal performance gain, but I've never lost performance from overclocking mine.

Well, I'm replacing my Hercules Prophet II MX 64Meg with a Radeon DDR 64Meg (eventually, when my source gets his new GF3. Great way of getting cheap bits.....)

I've seen the future, and it's Radeon Shaped!

Kingslayer pretty much said it all. I'd steer clear of the blorb though, it performs well but it's a pin to make it fit well on the Radeon. Too much stuff aroung the GPU. Just get a nice S7 HS/F or a PPro HS/F. The Radeon doesn't run very hot compared to most gpu's so replacing the stock HS/F is more of a cautionary preventative measure than a true necessity. Good luck with it and enjoy, Radeons kick butt.

I've got a couple of old smaller HS's lying around. I've been thinking of modding mine to get a bit more speed but have'nt gotten around to it.

The Radeon's an excellent card though. I'm much happier with it then I was with my old V5!

I am using the 7115 drivers in windows ME. I found a big boost in d3d with dx 8.1 beta as well. Use powerstrip to ensure that all the HyperZ functions are enabled. Radeons do not run very hot, but a replacement heatsink is not a bad idea. Also ensure that u have the Digital video capture directx patch installed as well to get the capture/dvd functions to work properly.
have fun!
