My AMD 1000mhz Athlon is running hot. Part of the problem is this sticky substance left behind by the thernmal transfer "goop" the came on my original heatsinks. I've tried fingernail polish remover and 140proof rubbing alcohol... nothing seems able to remove this crap.

Any suggestions?

The only other option I can suggest to you that might work, is try to put lighter fluid on it, that might work...

I dont know what this stuff is axactly, but it is called "thinner" and it is used to "thin" house paint. All the goos Ive encountered have fallen before it :) It vaporates rather quickly so tighten the cap well.

Scrape as much off as you can with a razor blade and then lapp away any troughs the blade cuts in the sink. Thats what I did to mine and it worked.

Hello,

Laquer thinner ! Use it quick. Buy that I mean wipe it on with a clean paper towel and wipe it off . Repeat as needed with another clean paper towel with laquer thinner on it. Do not soak the chip in it.

After that you may want to lap it with a little valve grinding compound. The keyword here is sand EASY ! Clean the compound off after lapping the chip against the heat sink.

Last but not least a thin layer of Artic Silver ll and reattach the heatsink.

I hope that helps , Billy

Use wd40 it will remove most anything , then just use some rubbing alcohol to clean off whatever the wd left behind.

Just for the heck of it blow up a balloon then spray some wd40 on it and just hold it for a minute or so and boom the balloon will pop.
