Today I discovered ATI's new video card! It's called the Radeon 8500 and it's based on the R200 GPU supporting DDR memory up to 300mhz. It will come with HDTV output, multiple monitor support, and almost 2x as many pixel shaders as the Geforce 3! The pixel shaders will run up to 22 instructions compared to Geforce3's 12. I've heard this card should be out by christmas for under $400!!!!:)

As long as it's a real competitor with the GF 3, I'm happy. At this point, nVidia seems to be getting a little too big for its boots. $400 for a Vidcard? Not in my neighborhood.

I can't wait for it either. you can pick up a geforce 3 right now for only about.. 330. or just get a regular 64MB radeon for 99 and wait for the next gen cards to come out.

Decisions, Decisions! Hmmm, bonus time is going to fall directly in line with the release of the 8500. :) I can feel the bug already and it's months away. You had to figure this was going to happen sooner or later. The nature of competition keeps that from happening...thank God!! I have been giving my money to NVidia for too long, I hope this card is all it's cracked up to be!!

They were having trouble fitting everything they wanted on the actual card! haha, but they have their own form of "quicunx" anti aliasing, and apparently FSAA up to 16X! That's just insane, but I'm sure it won't be able to hold up against the sub divisions of the GF3 that nVidia is going to be making, plus the price won't be able to compete...
Yeah, ATI has allways been bit weak with the price. But mayby the new desicion to sell out chips to board manufacturers will bring us cheap 8500s from the Taiwan.
BTW ATIs smoothview (or was it smoothvision?) is nothing like Quin-sometin. Complitely programmable sample pattern with up to 16 samples per pixel is quite different than a fixed 5 sample Quincux (?). Alltought Quincux is quite smart, producing 5 samples where others get 2 samples.

Well, the new Radeon is suppose to premier at $399 retail. That's about where the GF3 premiered, a little less than some (Still less than what the Hercules goes for.) OEM cards should be even cheaper and with the possibility of other manufacturers releasing versions of it we should see some decent drops in price about month after it's release.
I think we'll need to wait and see just how well this card performs, but if it's as good as it sounds then it might be worth paying a few dollars more than the GF3.
For now we don't even know how well it performs really, lets wait till we find out how it stacks up against the GF3 and Detonator 4 drivers before we pass judgement on it's potential price. It might just be worth the money.

The Gforce3 and radeon 8500 are both a waste of money. I rather spend my 300-400$ on somthing like a new mobo and cpu or even a new monitor. Right now I have the Radeon 64 ddr and im loving it because the gforce 3 and 8500 will only out live my card by about 6 months to a year and I will have a new card by then anyways. Think before you spend.

Good god that is one UGLY card!! Looks like a savage 3 with a HSF! Hopefully that will change before release...and what's this about other companies manufacturing it? Doesn't ATI make and sell it's own cards, not the rights to make their cards?
